On 9th January some welcome new steps for


our Viscount were acquired from a Brussels-based airport ground equipment company, TCR, and collected from Aviation Equipment Resources Ltd at Stansted Airport by Mike Cowan using a suitable low-loader from the Cowan Motor Group. At a meeting of the Brooklands Heritage Partnership on 18th January, Elmbridge Borough Council confirmed the good news that on 21st November their planning committee had reviewed the final draft of the new Historic England-funded Brooklands Conservation Management Plan (CMP) and were very happy with this comprehensive document which was launched for public consultation last July. After further minor editing the CMP will be published on both the Museum’s and Elmbridge Borough Council's websites very soon. As a direct result of this work, the team now has high hopes for another Historic England grant being offered

Our department’s personnel once again provided significant support to our caterers and events staff with equipment and other infrastructure items before, during and after the De Dion-Bouton Tricycle Race and New Year’s Day events and everybody’s efforts here are much appreciated. Fortified with turkey and, ironically for Christmas, with our toys safely stowed in their wrapping, we raised a glass to our absent friends as our thoughts turned both to them and to our history. The reason for the latter was that the end of an era is coming, one in which a major personality and driving force of the Museum bows out after many years at the helm; a period during which Brooklands moved from being a provincial Museum to an international brand.
