The barriers snaked across the Finishing Straight after the high winds following New Year’s Day. They won’t do that now they are filled with water! (Tim Morris).

and the high winds showed what nature could do in the following days by blowing them, snake-like, across the concrete! Now, however, they are filled with water and solid as a rock. It would have to be one of Michael Fish’s hurricanes to move them. They were first used at a moving vehicle event at the end of January for the VSCC Driving Tests where the crowd were kept safe as the vintage cars pirouetted around cones. The Winter Draw raised £11,000 with the winners being drawn at the BTM Christmas Lunch. The first prize-winner kindly donated some of the jackpot back to the Museum which was very generous, thank you. The four winners drawn out of the drum were Patrick Hanratty, A Carler, Robert Lintonbon and R Ross. Congratu- lations to them and thank you to all those who made donations to the project. As previously mentioned, membership subscriptions are rising. There has been a small delay so that the date for the rise will now be 2nd March. All new memberships and renewals received after that date will be at the new rates. All January and February renewals will be at the old rates, as long as you renew by 1st March. If the renewal date on your card is 1/3/18 you will have been sent a reminder at the beginning of February and the old rate will be honoured as long as it is renewed up to the expiry date. After that it will be the new rate. All direct debits dated 1/3/18 will be at the old rate. A reminder of the new subscription rates: Club £125, Family £75, Double £65, Individual £40. The membership rates are based on roughly three times the Museum entry fee for the

Individual level and the other levels except Club are at discounted rates of this. The Club level has increased by a bigger percentage to represent the better value of that membership level, plus these members won’t have to pay the extra charge at the Museum premium events (such as 1940s Relived etc). New coloured cards will be issued on re- newal to make it easier for us to identify at the gate who are Club level members. We hope you will continue to support the work of the Museum by rejoining at the new prices, bearing in mind that they haven’t risen for a number of years now. Your Committee and events teams are always looking at new and exciting events and talks that we hope you will be able to come along to and join in with as an added bonus to your membership. Look out too for a new style magazine coming later this year which will give you even more great stories about Brooklands and its past as well as up to date news from the BTM and the Museum. Finally…

In memory of... Sadly, each issue we lose some of our members and we’d like to pass the condolences of the Brooklands Trust Members’ Chairman and Committee to the families of the following who we have been notified have recently passed away. Ken Davies from Guildford, a long-time supporter of Brooklands. Brian West from Ifold who had been a Member for three years. Ted Whitaker from Chatham, a member for nine years and a supporter of Brooklands events in his MGF.
