The new safety barriers in use for the VSCC Driving Tests.
Members’ activities. Less obvious, and some- what less glamorous, is the latest BTM contribu- tion to the Museum’s assets – 135 brown safety barriers costing £20,000. Sufficient to run the length of the Finishing Straight and its two ends (with some to spare), the barriers were used for the first time at January’s VSCC Driving Tests. Regards, Gareth Tarr, BTM Treasurer
What happened Dear Mr Bass, Mention of the Brooklands Society on page 47 and 50 of the last Bulletin reminds one of what happened. Motor Sport (Editor Bill Boddy) registered the
Brooklands Society Ltd, Bill being a director, and in due course Kenneth Evans, Vice President of the Society and well-known Brooklands driver and a chartered surveyor, secured the protection orders at Brooklands, the site being sold by Vickers Ltd. This strategic site sale was the country’s largest land deal. At the planning enquiries Society member Sir Geoffrey Pattie, Minister for Defence Procurement, was a very important figure. From the outcome of the planning enquiries Elmbridge Borough Council established a sub-committee advised by Donors lnternational Advisory Services with three Brooklands Society directors under the chairmanship of County Councillor and past Mayor F E Mallett. The sub-committee recommended the establish- ment of the Brooklands Museum Trust and in 1987 Elmbridge Borough Council established it, supported by £650,000 of public money.
Yours sincerely, K R Day, Weybridge
