Family-run metal pressing company begins a new era
Aston based FIS Loveday Ltd has started a new chapter in its 44 year history, as the current managing director takes retirement and passes the reigns over to younger brother Chris Forrest. Chris has been with the company that produces small and medium sized metal pressings for 20 years, starting when his father was at the helm. A toolmaker by trade, he brings a wealth of manufacturing and production experience to the role. He has brought his wife Juli in to manage the finance and administration of the company and the two are keen to ensure the business grows.
“Our aim is to double the number of staff here and increase the throughput back to its heyday in the 90’s”. But Chris is under no illusion as to the task in hand. “It can be very challenging to win new customers in this industry but we are putting plenty of measures in place to build on the strong reputation we have with our current customers.
FIS Loveday can count the likes of Bentley Motor Cars and Mitras Automotive (part of the JCB supply chain) as two of their largest clients to date, but one of the unique elements of FIS is their ability to produce bespoke solutions. “This is an area of growth for us and one I am very interested in developing. I have always enjoyed creating
solutions for a problem or realising somebody’s innovation.” There are many projects on the cards at FIS – we unfortunately can’t discuss them here.
While Chris continues to deal with the current customer base Juli has been working towards developing the outward facing vision and has not only been working on a new website and the launch of a social media presence but has been successful in her application for cohort three of the Aston Programme for Small Business Growth. She hopes this will support their progress through access to a network of
specialists and like minded businesses, as well as guidance from a highly regarded team from Aston University.
