GLOBAL OFFSHORE WIND MARKET The first line of defence to ensure that a cable route is carefully selected to avoid hazards, difficult terrain and busy shipping routes is proper planning, FEED studies and initial route engineering, based on in-depth survey data


Route clearance, cable armouring and mattressing can minimise risk to the cable and damage caused by abrasion or entanglement. Only through adequate burial can cable be placed totally out of reach of such potentially harmful interaction.


UNFORESEEN INCIDENTS Incidents relating to the installation and operation of high voltage subsea cables are the main cause of financial losses in the global offshore wind industry. Between 2002 and 2015 a total of 28 UK offshore wind claims caused £213 million in insurance losses, more than €60 million of which came in 2015 alone.

that amounted to an astounding £11.7 million, all before factoring in the cost of service interruption. Sixty- eight percent of these claims were directly due to cable faults occurring during the construction phase, which demonstrates how key it is to contract a partner with proven cable experience.


EXPERIENCE AND EXPERTISE Chelmsford-based CWind delivers power cable capabilities for the Global Marine Group (GMG), a market leader in offshore engineering. The Group has operated in offshore wind since its conception and was responsible for installing the inter-array cables at Blyth, the UK’s first offshore windfarm, in 2000; at Europe’s first windfarm Horns Rev in 2002; and in 2004 at the Kentish Flats, the UK’s first commercial windfarm.


GMG collaboratively has installed 387 inter-array cables and completed 421 cable pull-ins at over 40 European windfarms, with the multi-role DPS- 2 vessel C.S. Sovereign alone being responsible for the installation of almost 15% of all inter-array cables globally. Since 2009, CWind has provided service support for operations and maintenance (O&M) activities for over 1.5GW of power generated by the offshore wind sector.
