HUGE POTENTIAL FOR EAST OF ENGLAND’S SUPPLY CHAIN

The fast-growing offshore wind supply chain in the East of England is on the cusp of a long steady rush of contracts as multi-billion pound developments off its coast step up a gear

A future pipeline of tenders on projects along the east coast should make the supply chain ‘hugely optimistic’ about its prospects, an industry leader commented ahead of the East of England Energy Group’s (EEEGR) two-day conference and exhibition focused on the unique all-energy coast.

SOUTHERN NORTH SEA EVENT SNS2018 Martin Dronfield, chair of EEEGR’s Offshore Wind Supply Chain Special Interest Group (SIG) and Director, Strategy & Business Development for James Fisher, will join leaders of the big offshore windfarm developers on the stage of the

flagship Southern North Sea event SNS2018 on March 1 where they will outline their projects.

“Potential opportunities are huge for the supply chain in the region,” Martin enthused.

“Businesses across the East of England should also be confident enough to supply their expertise and innovation outside their region to the development of Dogger Bank and Hornsea projects off the north east coast as well as offshore windfarms off their beaches,” he continued.

“East Anglia ONE was the first of these projects to enter construction in April 2017 and when complete in 2020, will be one of the largest offshore windfarms in the world.

“In a relatively short timeframe offshore wind has matured from an experimental technology to become a mainstream industry. East Anglia is at the forefront of this burgeoning industry – our (SPR’s) planned projects are testament to this. The future of offshore wind is now around growth and innovation, which in turn will deliver efficiencies across the sector.”

The session, Innovation: Offshore Wind, Establishing the New Normal, will be on the second day of the conference and feature presentations by ScottishPower Renewables, Vattenfall UK, SSE, Ørsted and Dudgeon. Offshore Design Engineering (ODE) will describe its development from a local to an international company.

WORLD-LEADING OFFSHORE WIND HUB Charlie Jordan, Project Director for ScottishPower Renewables, will update the audience on its East Anglia ONE and THREE projects.

He said: “With four windfarms planned off the coast of Norfolk and Suffolk, ScottishPower Renewables is playing a significant part in transforming East Anglia into a world- leading offshore wind hub. With a combined capacity which could generate 3.5GW of clean renewable energy, these four windfarms have the potential to power the equivalent of around three million homes.
