DYNAMIC POSITIONING
gangway deployment. In a multi-asset environment such as a windfarm the case for RangeGuard Monopole becomes overwhelming,” explained Andrew Stead, Head of Sales at Guidance Marine.
INSTALLATION
The system has been installed on board the Windea La Cour, the vessel also an award winner, collecting the Offshore Renewables Award at the conference. One of the most advanced vessels ever built specifically for the offshore wind market, the Windea La Cour is working on the Gemini offshore windfarm in the North Sea. The paper DP Positioning – Relative Position Referencing Goes Targetless discusses the latest results from the first fully integrated RangeGuard Monopole system on board the vessel.
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD With over 500 delegates at the evening, the Lifetime Achievement award was presented to Johannes
that the company will wear with pride, having been made all the sweeter that it is industry recognised from the company’s peers within the maritime world.
THANK YOUS “We love innovation and high-tech, but as always technology on its own can’t win. You need fantastic partners, so I would like to thank our integrator partners on this particular project, Marine Technologies and our end customer Bernhard Schulte who have already won with the Windea La Cour where RangeGuard system is pioneering targetless positioning in the DP world,” stated Jan Grothusen, CEO at Guidance Marine, speaking at the Award’s Evening in London

DNV-GL APPROVAL
In September 2017, Guidance Marine’s award-winning RangeGuard Monopole Position Reference System had received DNV-GL type approval (Certificate No: TAA00001E4). Combining RangeGuard with their Monopole DP software it is the only local position reference sensor that does not need physically installed targets for it to operate.
Although there are no physical targets, the inputs to the DP system are exactly the same format as other local position reference sensors – any DP system that accepts laser and radar local position reference sensors can also accept the RangeGuard Position Reference System.
Østensjø for his longstanding commitment to offshore vessel ownership and services. Both Guidance Marine’s RangeGuard and RadaScan View systems are currently being trialled on-board the Østensjø Rederi vessel, Edda Ferd.
The award recognises Guidance Marine’s approach to technology and innovation, it is a badge of honour
removes the requirement for targets altogether. The new system does not use dedicated physical targets – it uses the local environment as its target; typically the leg or lower tower of a wind turbine. Removing the need for physical targets to be installed makes the vessel completely independent and can increase both safety and decrease turnaround times.
Guidance Marine SYSTEM FEATURES INCLUDE…
» No maintenance » Detects objects within 300m » No moving parts » Additional form of redundancy » Reduces turnaround times
» Vessel independent of installation (no dedicated targets required)
