There will be further consultations taking place in the village as options for the future start to emerge. Good Citizen Award The Parish Council has instituted a Good Citizen Award for individuals in our village who perform significant public spirited acts for the benefit of our community. At our December 7th meeting the first two certificates will be awarded. The first is to Keys Drive resident Robert McKee who by his quick thinking actions prevented significant damage to Keys Hill Wood when part of it caught fire in November. Mr McKee acted promptly in calling the Fire Service who speedily responded and contained the blaze which had spread from a neighbouring garden. The occupant - who has been given words of advice by the Parish Council - had been burning garden waste in a brazier and the fire had spread. The second recipient is The Avenue resident Peter Claxton. Peter is one of those rare people who is always willing to lend a hand when a job needs doing in the village. When a number of road drains were blocked earlier this year causing localised flooding Peter was on hand leading the digging team to remove the blockages. When a tree crashed across a village footpath it was Peter who quickly appeared with his chain saw to clear a path. The list goes on. Parish Council Chair Barry Fiske commented: “Peter and Robert demonstrate the very best in good citizenship. Their selfless actions for the good of the community are a model for us all. We are delighted they will be the first recipients of this important award.”
Traffic Calming A1151 The Parish Council is exploring ways of reducing speeding on the A1151 Norwich Road. It is considering the purchase of a second Sam 2 mobile speed recording device which not only indicates the speed a driver of doing but also records the speed of the vehicle and the time of any offence committed. We are also working closely with our colleagues on Hoveton Parish Council to compile data on the percentage of drivers using A1151 who are just passing through our two villages. This could strengthen any case for a by-pass. Both parish councils will be using this information in any representations made to Norfolk County Council Highways Department and Norfolk Police.
Christmas Christmas is almost upon us and this year the Parish Council is attempting to make the village more festive looking by erecting a 12 foot Christmas tree complete with 1000 twinkly lights in the Broads Tours Car park for all those driving or walking past to see. Special thanks to Salle Farms, Roys, Trafford Estate and Broads Tours for helping make this possible. Happy Christmas to all from your Parish Council.
