WROXHAM GUIDES

Within the last month, 1st Wroxham Guides have completed a variety of activities. For Healthy Lifestyles, promoting physical, emotional and spiritual well-being, a small group of Guides cooked a healthy Spaghetti Bolognaise and the unit participated in an activity with Roots to Routes. The session included building a confidence tree; a flashcard and lollipop game to encourage the Guides to talk about how they feel and how they can support each other. The session included positive friendships and self esteem; bulling and cyber bullying - help to spot it and combat it; consent and relationships - how they feel, the law and being able to say no and positive self image and healthy relationships with food. Penguin Patrol planned and ran a bring a friend fancy dress Halloween themed party. They carved pumpkins, lead the ‘Thriller’ dance routine; ran apple bobbing and a few games of wink murder and provided a variety of party food and drink. An fun evening which also taught Penguins various leadership skills. Most the Patrols have either finished the Go For Its! of their choice – the Polar Bear Patrol just need to run their Beach themed party to complete the Go For It! Parties. Three of the older Guides who aren’t yet Patrol Leaders had the opportunity to lead an activity of their choice from the Taster Pack of activities which will be incorporated into the new programme when it is launched late next year. They chose an activity from Express Myself, ‘Storytelling Silhouettes’. In friendship groups, the Guides made flat shadow puppets and using a well known story which they gave modern twists, they performed their own shadow puppet shows. The Guides also started the first phase of creating book folding candles which they will finish and decorate with ribbons and top with battery operated tea lights – the first Christmas activity of the year.
