“Having a voice in community matters and expressing the views of residents. My family have a long association with the village dating back to the 1950s.” What do you like most about living in Hoveton? “As I don’t drive, the good transport links are important to be able to travel into Norwich and visit my family in London. The convenience of local shops helps to establish a sense of community. The local library is very important to me as I am an avid reader.”
Who would you most like to be stuck in a lift with? “Boris Johnson.”
Who would you least like to be stuck in a lift with? “Rowan Atkinson.”
What is the most challenging aspect of being a Parish Councillor? “Providing a balanced approach that meets the demands of ALL residents, given that some will have opposing opinions. I’m a member of the Hoveton Village Hall Management Committee but, despite publicising the Hall and the various groups that use it, more help is still needed to run the Hall. I would like to see the community engaged more in local activities.”

Yet Another Fine Mess Hoveton Parish Council has recently been informed of a number of incidents of dog fouling in the local area, most notably on Church Road, where bags of dog mess have reportedly been thrown into nearby gardens. Aside from being a public nuisance, failing to dispose of dog mess correctly also creates a potential health hazard, so dog walkers are asked to please clean up after their pets and to make use of the dog waste bins provided. Did you know that doggy bags can now be put into ordinary waste bins too? Bearing this in mind, there is no excuse for dog fouling! Any residents with concerns about dog fouling are encouraged to report this directly to North Norfolk District Council on 01263 516085 or via

norfolk.gov.uk/tasks/environmental-protection/report-dog-fouling.
The Picnic Table That Roared Eagle-eyed local residents will have noticed the recent appearance of a new picnic table on Granary Staithe. The table was part funded by a generous donation from the Wroxham & Hoveton Lions Club and was assembled with the help of several enthusiastic Lions. Hoveton Parish Council hopes the new table will be well used by local residents and visitors alike, allowing even more people to enjoy sitting out on the Staithe. Meanwhile, Wroxham & Hoveton Lions Club, which describes itself as “ordinary people doing amazing things”, is currently looking for new members who are willing to give just a little time to help those in need.
