The Dairy marks growth with premises move
Creative agency The Dairy has moved to larger premises in West Bridgford following recent growth of the team and an unprecedented surge in business during its 15th year in operation. The Dairy is so-called as it began
life in what was previously the milking parlour of MD Nigel Rowlson’s former business partner’s farmhouse home. Since then, there has been a move to offices in Old Basford, growth which saw the
team become eight members at peak before the recession hit, leaving The Dairy a two-person operation, due to several clients in the construction industry going out of business while owing the agency sizeable amounts of money. Nigel said: “We have managed to
weather the storm to survive when many similar Nottingham agencies went under. “Since Fiona and Verena joined the team, our offering has gone
from strength to strength and this year has been one of our most successful years in business to date. We now have seven members of staff who have excellent skills and experience in marketing, design, PR, social media, copywriting, web and video, and we’ve seen a surge in companies requiring our services as a result. “I am absolutely thrilled with
how The Dairy has grown in 2017 and it’s testament to the fantastic
L-R: Fiona Geeson, Account Director; Cladia Wright, Account Junior; Tom Walters, Account Executive; Nigel Rowlson, MD; Verena Batchelor, Project Manager; and Mitch Proctor, Designer
team we have in place now. A business such as ours is only as strong as its people, and thankfully The Dairy is made up of experienced, dedicated, creative individuals who deliver fresh ideas to our clients every day.” The Dairy is now located in a
sizable Victorian villa on Millicent Road, not far from Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, the home of Chamber member Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club.

Rise of the outsourced FD
Given that the number of businesses in the UK has more than doubled over the last 5 years, it is no surprise that interim & virtual finance directors are becoming a more and more popular choice for many SMEs. Chamber member Paul Maddox, who established Maddox Financial Solutions Ltd in March 2017 commented; “Most SMEs already have a competent
Financial Controller/Finance Manager in post to look after the day to day finances, but there simply aren’t enough Financial Director-level duties to justify the long-term commitment, hefty salary and significant costs of recruiting a permanent FD. An interim or virtual FD solution provides focussed expertise when and where required, delivering quick results while avoiding all permanent costs of hiring, NI contributions, holidays, pension, health insurance, company car benefits etc. In today’s rapidly changing climate, organisations want to be able to respond to opportunities and take big decisions, quickly. With their ability to inject experience as and when it’s needed, outsourced finance directors are an ideal solution”.
