MP supports anticipated Clifton regeneration plan
One of Clifton’s most talked about development schemes has received a visit from Lilian Greenwood, MP for Nottingham South, following the demolition of the existing buildings. Clifton Triangle, located at Green
Lane, Clifton, is a mixed-use scheme being developed by Cedar House Investments, adjacent to the main retail centre of the town. Construction by local contractor Clegg Group started at the end of July and recently reached its first milestone as the derelict office was demolished and the site cleared ready for building work to start. The development will see a
20,500sq ft supermarket, five retail units, a café/restaurant and 24 apartments and will create more than 130 jobs in the local area. The scheme is popular with many
Clifton residents as the public consultation revealed that 78% of locals wanted to see a discount food

store and 73% agreed that the Green Lane site was the best location. Lilian Greenwood MP said: “My
constituents have been asking for a better range of affordable, local shops for a while, which is why I decided to campaign for a high- profile retailer to join the scheme. “It was great to see the site as

John Moxon, Business
Development Director at Clegg Group, said: “We have been based in the Nottingham area for more than 75 years and are thrilled to be involved in such a high profile, local
regeneration development. The Clifton Triangle will be a great addition to the town. Lidl UK's acquisitions consultant,
John Hartshorne, said: “There's been much anticipation for this new store and it's great that Cedar House Investments and Clegg Group are now in a position to break the ground and start the build. We are extremely grateful for all the support that we've received so far, and would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while we enter this next phase of development.” The Clifton store will bring 30
new jobs to the area and roles will be advertised next year. The development is being marketed by Chamber member FHP.
increase of such cases has been generated by people trying to go through the process on their own to save cost and then coming up against complex issues such as land access, boundaries and planning rights. Issues surrounding land
registry and land searches, as well as the complex matter of contracts, are all causing issues which are then forcing people to seek what Banner Jones is calling ‘post-issue conveyancing’; at which point the lawyer is called upon to rectify a problem that could have been caught earlier in the process or avoided altogether. Banner Jones legal expert,
Richard Joy, said: “The prospect of buying or selling your home can be daunting, especially when you take into consideration all of the contributing factors that are ultimately out of your control. “In fact, it is now considered
so stressful an experience that it comes second only to divorce according to the Home Buyers Alliance research, and with so much riding on the all- important legal transfer of home ownership, there are no guarantees that this cost- cutting exercise won’t leave you exposed down the line.”
Work begins on new education facility
Work has begun on improved facilities at a special school in Hinckley, which will benefit the whole community. Construction of a new specially-equipped building for Dorothy Goodman
Special School recently started and will, once completed, provide state-of- the-art amenities for upper-school aged 11-19. A ceremony took place recently to celebrate work starting on the new
building, which was attended by representatives from the school and companies involved with the construction, including Midlands-based main contractor GF Tomlinson. Dorothy Goodman is a specialist school which caters for its 270 pupils
aged between three and 19 years with a wide range of learning disabilities. To meet the diverse needs of pupils, teaching is provided across its two main sites and three satellite units within local mainstream schools. Lee Perkins, Contracts Manager at GF Tomlinson, said: “The new building
is a significant build for Dorothy Goodman School that will provide a central hub for pupils and teaching staff to learn in and enjoy. It will be a fantastic addition to the school and GF Tomlinson is proud to be working on such a community-led project that will benefit so many families in Leicestershire.”
