East Midlands Airport helps students fly high

Where business psychology meets personal health

By Elaine Godley MBA, FRSA, O.A. Dip (Psychology)

What is Perfect Health?

Perfect Health is different for everyone, and a real challenge for those of us with busy careers. How we achieve a good balance of work/life/health can be a real mystery. Did you know that your

behaviour directly relates to your success in business, your personal relationships, and how healthy you are too? In my experience of being a

CEO, COO, business transformational consultant, single mother, grandmother, entrepreneur, and having cancer four times, I am fully conversant with what it takes to achieve and maintain good health and wellbeing. As you can read, I haven’t always got it right!

Qualified in nutrition and

psychology, with an MBA and oodles of practical experience in living well and managing a team, I am now offering the benefit of my guidance at clinics in Nottingham and online. I frequently give

presentations and workshops on how to manage teams for optimal performance and health. Why not give me a call on 079615 36419 or visit one of my clinics?

East Midlands Airport has launched a unique partnership with Derby College to showcase the wide range of career opportunities available to students and create a talent pipeline of potential job candidates for the company. There are over 7,000 people

working with multiple employers across the East Midlands Airport site - offering fascinating career choices for young job-seekers. Derby College is one of the few

colleges in the UK to run aviation operations study programmes at the Roundhouse campus, Pride Park. The programmes are specifically geared towards progressing young people into careers in the growing industry. Colleen Hempson, Corporate

Social Responsibility Manager at East Midlands Airport, said: “East Midlands Airport is committed to working with young people, highlighting the diverse opportunities available in this industry and supporting them in their career aspirations. “We opened our Education

Centre several years ago, which welcomes over 3,000 young people every year. As well as supporting young people, this makes good sense for our business – developing a talent pipeline for the short, medium and longer term.” April Hayhurst, Derby College’s

Deputy Principal - Employer and Economic Affairs, said: “This is an amazing opportunity for our students and we are extremely grateful for the commitment shown by East Midlands Airport.

“We work with nearly 3,000

employers across a wide range of industries that provide all kinds of support from work experience and site visits to guest lectures and mentoring. These forward-thinking

businesses and organisations recognise that, by developing students’ work skills and attitudes, we can support individuals into jobs and address skills shortages in the workplace.”

Partnership to train managers

A new agreement between training provider Babington Group and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) will see 500 managers earn professional qualifications up to the internationally-recognised Chartered Manager status over the next year. As part of the agreement, Babington

will offer learners CMI-backed management qualifications at Level 3, Level 5 and Level 7, as well as the new breed of employer-designed Trailblazer management apprenticeships. Students on the CMI dual-accredited management courses will also gain CMI membership and access to ManagementDirect, the CMI’s online portal. In addition, students will gain access to Babington’s digital learning platform BabingtonOnline, where they will learn through

interactive content and an exclusive leadership forum. At the same time, students will be guided through programmes by industry- experienced leadership mentors. Carole Carson (pictured), Chief

Executive at Babington, said:“We are delighted to form a partnership with CMI, which ensures that our programmes contain the latest thinking in leadership practice and make a real

difference to UK business. “A 2016 report by Investors in People found that poor management costs the UK £84bn a year

in lost productivity. According to CMI research, seven in ten employers fail to train first-time managers. The agreement with Babington is another step forward for CMI in its mission to increase the number of professionally-qualified managers and leaders.”
