Cartwright set to communicate Nottingham’s culture capital bid


PR and digital agency Cartwright Communications has won the contract to provide regionally- focused public relations and digital support to Nottingham’s bid for the European Capital of Culture 2023. Cartwright is working alongside


the Nottingham 2023 board and leaders from local cultural venues to generate support for the city’s bid. Nottingham launched its bid for European Capital of Culture 2023 at an event in the city recently, which included a ‘luminarium’ - a structure of luminescent colour and light – created by internationally- renowned Nottingham artists Architects of Air. Competing against Belfast,


Dundee, Leeds, and Milton Keynes, Nottingham’s European Capital of Culture 2023 bid team will be supported by people across the Midlands and beyond, and is calling on locals to become Nottingham 2023 ‘Cultural Lions’. Liz Cartwright, MD of Cartwright


Communications, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be working on this fantastic campaign. As an agency, we wholeheartedly support the city’s bid and we were pleased and proud to have won this work. “We are looking forward to


working with the bid board moving forward.” As part of its work, Cartwright is


carrying out media relations, event support and strategy planning. Paul Russ, Chairman of


Nottingham's Cultural Strategy Partnership and Chair of the Nottingham 2023 board, said: “We are delighted to be working with Cartwright – an agency which has vast experience of Nottingham and its cultural scene. We were thrilled with the media coverage from the launch event itself. Cartwright covered every major broadcast and print title across wider Nottinghamshire, which was a fantastic result and helped create huge engagement with people from not just the city, but throughout the UK.

“Cartwright is heavily involved with


creative ideas for the bid. As part of the bid, we want to give everyone in Nottingham the opportunity to take part in a project, production or


experience and nurture the next generation of creative producers and cultural leaders.” Spearheading the Nottingham 2023 bid is Nottingham’s Strategic


Cultural Partnership, with support provided by Nottingham City Council, The University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University and Marketing NG.


Chesterfield’s community spaces get cleaned up


Derbyshire-based Ward Recycling has completed its first community clean up in Chesterfield. The challenge saw a children’s park, a Scout hut and the Five Pits Trail cleared of litter, debris and branches. Following a month-long campaign, Ward employees and

more than 50 local volunteers and community groups signed up to improve public spaces in and around the town. More than 20 areas were


nominated by Chesterfield residents, including Highfield Park, Ashover Primary School Garden,


Chesterfield Canal, Brampton Scout hut, Sharley Park, Westwood, between Inkersall and Brimington and Brimington Common. Donald Ward, Head of Technical


and Recycling at Ward Recycling, said: “We’ve had a fantastic response to the campaign and our


Clean Team has done a great job clearing over 200 sacks of waste and recycling rubbish from as many community areas as possible. If we can educate people on good waste management practices and the benefits of recycling, we can try to keep Chesterfield clean and tidy.”
