BULLETIN BOARD NEWS IN BRIEF

PICK OF THE CROP ... Pupils took to the hedgerows in September for the annual inter-house Blackberry Picking Competition. A record 47.39kg were picked in total ... with pupils from Fry House harvesting the winning haul.

STEPPING BACK IN TIME ... In October, Year 6 turned the clock back to the 1940s when they became World War 2 evacuees for the day. They are pictured outside Upton House in Warwickshire where they learnt how the wartime inhabitants supplemented their diet with their own ‘Dig for Victory’ allotments. Meanwhile, Year 9 visited Bletchley Park, home of the Code Breakers, as part of a joint History and Maths trip. They discovered how the deciphering of military codes and ciphers produced vital intelligence in support of Allied military operations on land, at sea and in the air.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE ... 2017 saw Sibford caterers agree to stock only Fairtrade bananas on the lunchtime fruit counter, following requests from pupils. The change in policy was announced to coincide with Fairtrade Fornight which took place in March. Sibford student Finn said: “We are delighted that the kitchen staff have agreed to stock Fairtrade bananas, paying the premium price for them in the name of fair pay for those further down the production line.”
