EXAM RESULTS 2017 A Level results are the best in years
August 2017 saw Sibford School Sixth Form students celebrating some outstanding exam results. At A Level, a third of students gained A*s or As and the pass rate at A* - B was 51.5% … the highest for at least eight years. BTEC results were also outstanding with all students gaining a Distinction*. Sibford Head Toby Spence said: “These are some fabulous results. In total, we had 46 students sitting exams in a range of 23 different subjects with top marks achieved in 18 of these. This says a great deal about the breadth of options on offer at Sibford Sixth Form, the hard work of our students and the strong support that is given to enable students to follow their desired pathways.” The results mean that Sibford students will be heading to some top university courses. Michael, who gained A*s in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics, is off to Hull York Medical School; Andrew, who gained A*s in Economics and History and an A in Geography will be going to Nottingham to study Computer Sciences; and Harry and Ben, who both gained As in Biology, Mathematics and Physics, will be heading to Bristol University,
where Harry will be studying Palaeontology and Ben Biology. Michael said: “It
really couldn’t have gone better for me and I am delighted that I will be able to study medicine.” Added Harry: “I’m absolutely thrilled with my results.” Head of Sibford Sixth Form, Cate Mallalieu-Needle said: “I would like to give my congratulations to all our students. We have seen some exceptional performances and I am especially delighted to see outstanding results for some students who, over the last two years, have risen to the challenge and achieved great success. Well done to all.” There was good news too for many of those taking the EPQ course which provides students with the opportunity to work on a project of their own choice under the guidance of a supervisor. Finn, whose project was titled: ‘Is there a legitimate reason for literature to be considered ‘classic’?’ received an A*. Meanwhile A grades were awarded to Nick for his project ‘Can respite care offer significant benefit to the Autistic child?’ and Honor for her project ‘Did media coverage affect public opinion during the Vietnam war?’ In a written report, the exam moderator said of Finn’s work: “The originality and level of enquiry was worthy of full marks and the report was fascinating, intellectually intriguing and beautifully written.”
