combined to bring a focus on the attrocitities faced by German Jews. “The inclusion of Anne

Frank (played by Paige) was a masterpeice,” commented one audience member. “Her death scene in particular was especially poignant and extremely emotional.”

In the original version of Cabaret, scenes at the Kit Kat Club feature several risqué acts. In the Sibford version these were replaced with a trapeze act. “Obviously I needed to make this suitable for a school production but at the same time I wanted to introduce our very own unique WOW factor,” said Neil Madden.

“When I discovered that two of our pupils, Annie and Althea, were experienced in circus skills, the trapeze was an obvious solution. The girls were terrific and brought a real excitement to the show.” As with previous Sibford

productions, Cabaret involved a number of different facets of the school curriculum. Some of the costumes were designed by the Year 9 Textiles class; the Art Department designed and created much of the scenery; and Head of Music, Fiona Hudson, was Musical Director. Meanwhile, media students Thomas and James assisted with projections and filming.

Managing back stage

Stage Manager for Cabaret was Sixth Form student Caroline who was able to draw on her October half term experience of spending three days on placement with The Royal Shakespeare Theatre shadowing members of the stage management team. Caroline, who has now gone on to Liverpool Institute

for Performing Arts to study Theatre and Performance Technology, was able to sit in on the technical rehearsal of the ground- breaking production of the Tempest, directed by Greg Doran, and also got to be backstage during a performance of The Rover at the Swan Theatre.

“Sitting in on rehearsals and watching all the technical stuff being put together was fantastic,” said Caroline. “The RSC allowed me to have free roam of the whole back stage and the theatre, giving me an insight of everything that went on.”
