Walking around Sibford School

The following reflection was written by Cantonese student Lai. The 16-year-old was inspired to write it during his year here at Sibford. He first wrote it in English and then translated it into Chinese to send to his father who subsquently sent it to a Chinese magazine where it was published! Sibford House Parent, Emma Robinson, said: “When Lai arrived he hardly spoke any English so when he brought it to show me I was incredibly impressed. He is such a humble young man, and was so happy and surprised that it was published in China. I know he will be delighted that it is now appearing in the Sibfordian.”

I

like to walk around the school when I have free time. It is a good way to relax myself. Walking around the buildings, crossing the field and enjoying the sunshine, I

feel relaxed by nature. At noon, when the sunshine is getting warmer and warmer, it will touch you as a kind old woman and make you feel relaxed. At the same time, I would like to lie under the tree, the breeze blows to you

as your mum’s hand, fresh air surrounds your nose, when you breathe, you can even smell some special scent which is from some unknown flower. They are as sweet as a candy. When you close your eyes, using your brain to feel how the warmth climbs up the body. The sun will use its warmth to make you feel as right as rain from head to foot. Now your body wants to do some sport and emit heat. I will stand up from the soft grass which is as smooth as the surface of the

water. Sometimes, it is like a sea wave when the wind comes down. Through the path between the buildings, looking up at the sky, the whole sky

is like a very big sapphire, with some tiny cloud inlay. It is like a beautiful painting by a master painter, clean and peaceful. Different buildings, with different shapes are located in different places; every

view is a beautiful picture. Some students are playing football or walking around school, people show their passion of life, in the meantime, there some very cute animals which make some light sound from nature, they are a romantic band creating inspiring songs. Sometimes, when it is raining, the walk will become different. The sky isn’t

blue, it is like a very messy paint bottle, but it will clean the path and bring more fresh air. Furthermore, when we are walking in the light rain, maybe we could feel some sense of rain washing the mind rather than soaking your body. When I am walking around the school, I feel close to nature, understand nature and enjoy some kind of special serenity.
