Olympic inspiration N
ot one but two Olympic Hockey players have helped to inspire Sibford pupils this year.
Gold medalist Hollie Webb, who scored the winning
goal as Team GB beat the Netherlands in Rio, was guest speaker at our annual Sports Awards dinner. She is pictured left with Year 10 pupil, Shae, who was named Sibford Sports Person of the year 2017. On a more practical level, Chris Cargo, who was part of Team Ireland Men’s Hockey Squad for Rio, spent the day at school coaching the Under 15s team, and helping lead PE sessions with pupils
from Year 4 to Year 9. Meanwhile, 13-year-old Sibford pupil Abi (pictured inset) is stepping out on the England Hockey Player Pathway after being selected to train at the Southern Regional
Performance Centre in Reading. The Player Pathway provides an environment that helps junior players realise their potential.
