The World Ship Society: Dorset Branch
The World Ship Society, which was formed in 1946, appeals to all those with an interest in ships – whether they have had careers at sea, have cruised or are just interested in anything maritime.
The Society has 21 branches overseas with the Dorset Branch being one of the 30 UK Branches. We have a very varied programme with a wide appeal and welcome guests to our Saturday afternoon meetings at 2.30pm, from September to May inclusive. The venue is the Broadstone Art & Community Centre (entry via the British Legion car park).
We have been holding meetings since 1986 and the meetings for the 2017/2018 year include presentations on the history of Cunard, expedition to Antarctica, cruise ships old and new, the Battle of Jutland, ship salvage and much more. There is also the opportunity to join Southampton members for an annual boat trip from Ocean Village to view all shipping in the docks, Fawley and Portsmouth
harbour. On the return, many cruise ships are seen leaving their Southampton berths. People tell us we are a friendly lot, so why not join us! We have a tea break around 3.30pm and fi nish by 5pm. Parking is free.
