Winning in Style By Cassie Luxton

On Sunday November 17th, Dawn Civiero of Acton, Ontario, became the owner of a world champion heeling horse.

Stylish Rocky is a five year old gelding that Dawn purchased as a three year old. With Clay Logan of Logan Performance Horses aboard, Rocky has enjoyed a very successful first year of showing. The year began

Fast forward to November 17th, Rocky and Clay competed in the preliminary rounds and made it back for the finals. In the finals of Jr. Heading, they placed a very respectable 11th place. Next up, Clay and Rocky drew last in the Jr. Heeling and won it! Upon Rocky and Clay winning the World Championship, Dawn said “It was amazing … unbelievable doesn’t even come close.” Over all, Stylish Rocky has put forward a very impressive first year of show- ing. The weekend before the American Quarter Horse World show, he was at the American Paint Horse Associ- ation World Show and left an impression placing Reserve champion Jr Heading and third place in Jr Heeling, among others! Rocky is also sitting second for year end.

Up next, Rocky and Dawn will be competing at the 2012 Tulsa Holiday Circuit show in Tulsa, Oklahoma from Decem- ber 28th-31st. Dawn notes she is “very excited to show with her world champion” and we wish her all the best!!

Congratulations Dawn, Stylish Rocky and Clay Logan on a very impressive year, and good luck with your future adventures!

with Rocky showing great promise after finishing circuit champion at his first show, the Tulsa Holiday Circuit Show. Clay and Rocky continued to show for the rest of the year, building up a very impressive 200+ points in both heading and heeling. With only 20.5 and 18 points needed to qualify for the Jr Heeling and Jr Heading, respectively, Rocky was well qualified to head into the American Quarter Horse World Show, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Clay Logan has been Dawn’s trainer for 10 years now, and who she originally bought her first Quarter Horse from. Dawn, who also ropes herself, was taught by Clay about three years ago. The horse that Dawn learned to rope on, Replay Blue Boon, is a world cham- pion himself in the junior and senior heeling. Dawn speaks very highly of Clay, mentioning “Clay has been my mentor, my hero and most of all my very dear friend.”

Horse Lovers Come Together to Raise Over $500 for Ontario Food Banks

Equine enthusiasts raised close to $500 for the Ontario Association of Food Banks at the Ontario Equestrian Federation Member Appreciation Party held yesterday at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, marking the second year the two organizations have worked together to help those in need.

“It’s terribly sad to think there are people in this province who don’t have enough to eat,” says Dianne Graham, the execu- tive director of the Ontario Equestrian Federation. “The Ontario Equestrian Federation and its members wanted to do something to make a difference in the lives of those who struggle to put food on their tables.”

The provincial representative for food banks in the province, the Ontario Association of Food Banks is a network of 120 food banks that support over 1,100

hunger relief programs and agencies across the province. Together they serve nearly 400,000 individuals, includ- ing 148,000 children, every month.

“Thanks to the generosity of the OEF and its mem- bers, the OAFB will be able to distribute over 1,400 meals across this province with the funds raised last night,” says Erin Fotheringham, development and opera- tions coordinator with the Ontario Association of Food Banks. “There are over 412,000 individ- uals across Ontario suffering from chron- ic hunger, and as we move into the holiday season, this number will rise. We are so thankful for contribu- tions like these, because they really help us work towards solving hunger in Ontario.”
