44/ DECEMBER 2012 THE RIDER Dapple Gray Is A Store Of A Different Colour By Kelly Bowers

When Kristy Pakstas-Lake grew up in Collingwood, she showed on the Trillium and A Circuit. However, the area was lacking a tack shop where riders could be outfitted head to toe in appropriate coach approved attire. They had to travel to Toronto for the specific “show kit” items,

equestrian lifestyle through tack, apparel, home furnishings and canine accessories. On April 1st of this year, the store, named after her favourite colour of horse, finally opened in Collingwood.

The eclectic equestrian boutique provides staple brands to satisfy competi- tive equestrians but Kristy also wanted to carry the products she is crazy about from Canadian companies making it big in the market right now . For example, Asmar Equestrian, which she says is “blowing up right now” because of the unique styling and craftsmanship. She also loves Ogilvy memory foam saddle pads and adores the patterns and fit of Cheval’s beautiful but- ton up shirts.

Dapple Gray has a good selection of gift ideas for home, pets and animal lovers. She recommends the show clutch by Black Knight Competition Accessories made with vintage silks and reclaimed leathers to make every piece unique. It holds your horses passport, show info and can even fit a tablet! Other favourite gift ideas are GPA helmets, Antares and Pendleton products and Deux Chevaux soy candles. Auburn dog collars and cus- tom pet beds from Bowsers and Ogilvy are popular as well.

and Kristy never quite understood why. When she and her husband Bryn Lake, moved back to the area from Van- couver, she knew that this was the kind of store she wanted to open. Well, that kind of store, but with a bit of impertinence and fun injected into the serious sport. The idea for Dapple Gray had been evolv- ing in her mind for a long time. She envi- sioned it to offer a high quality english

For a unique shopping experience, Dapple Gray’s mobile trailer will be available for horse shows, open houses, barn parties and other off-site events. Who knows where you might see them next season? Kristy is also happy to host private group shopping parties in the store. When a customer books a date and time for six or more shoppers, Kristy will close the store, provide beverages, music and a discount on every purchase. The store also offers a custom order products for the hard to fit or discerning

Exciting Innovations Coming In 2013 For Buying Equine Insurance

Well-known insur- ance professional Mike King of Intercity Insurance Services recently spoke with The Rider to share some exciting news about his company’s introduction of web-based equine insur- ance products in the new year.

To many people, insurance is a loathsome and lengthy chore second only to taxes: it’s a pain in the cheque-book but a nec-

essary nuisance, and it’s often hard to get your head around all the coverage levels, premiums and quali- fications. Having listened closely to their customers’ wants, needs and issues with the existing applica- tion process, Intercity Insurance Services is launching a brand new, customer -friendly online purchase option that will “get her done” in less than 5 minutes!

As of December 15, 2012, Ontario horse owners will be able to log on to www.intercityinsurance.co m and simply click on the “Purchase Insurance Online” link which takes them to a simple form where they can choose from two simple plans: a Basic Rider package offer- ing $5 million Liability coverage and $50,000 Accidental Death & Dis- memberment coverage (an increase of $20,000 over previous coverage pack- ages offered) for an annual premium of only $31, or a Rider Plus package that they can customize by cherry-picking individual add-ons to the Basic pack- age such as tack, travel and horse mortality coverage for a premium amounting to a maximum of $212 per year if you took all the add- ons. And you don’t even have to do any calculations - the site automatically does it all for you prior to

completing the purchase form with your name and address. Easy and secure online payment is made through all major credit cards.

Formed in September of 1998, Intercity Insurance Services has provided insurance products and ser- vice to customers in Ontario, specializing in agricultural insurance that includes horse, farm, coach and commercial equine business coverage.

“Client service is an obligation we take very seriously,” says Mike King, “We are proud of our reputation in the insurance industry as a highly profes- sional organization. Of the thousands of insurance bro- kers around the province, there are less than half-a- dozen who legitimately specialize in the equine area and Intercity is proud to stand out from the herd by offering this new quick and effective service for our busy customers in the equine industry.”

Unlike previous insurance services, this new online opportunity to purchase affordable insur- ance coverage is open to everyone from industry professionals to the week- end pleasure rider. No horse association member- ship is required to to take advantage of Intercity’s products. Full coverage and peace of mind are simply a mouse-click away!

“If you’re not sure about your level of cover- age or have any questions, please give us a call on our Toll Free number: 1-888- 394-3330,” Mike assures The Rider readers, “we have a great team of insur- ance professionals ready to offer you exceptional cus- tomer care.”

Have a happy, fully- insured, holiday season in the saddle!
