OBRA NEWS DECEMBER 2012 By Kari Kelly
Wow, it is hard to believe that the OBRA season has now fin- ished for the 2012 year! It has been an incredible year and many thanks must go out to our Executive Team. They have all worked tirelessly to ensure a great season with fantastic venues, organized events and amazing prize money and sponsorships. The OBRA Annual General Meeting is scheduled for Satur- day January 19th, at 1:00pm at the Quality Inn, in Woodstock with a light lunch served from 12:30 to 1:00pm. In the evening the OBRA Banquet will follow with cocktails from 5:30 to 6:15pm. We have saddles, jackets and a few special awards that will be handed out that evening. Dinner is at 6:30pm with awards and a party to follow. Banquet tickets are $44 each, for tickets please contact Carol Crane by January 1, 2013.
We also want to recognize and thank our OBRA 2012 Year End Point Sponsors:
Stonecroft Equine and Highland Fence
www.stonecroftequine.com www.highlandfence.ca/
Dr. Bob Folkard has been a supporter and competitor with OBRA for many years. OBRA youth are so appreciative of him and Highland Fence stepping up to be the official 2012 YOUTH year end award sponsor! The youth are an integral part of our sports future, and this support is crucial to OBRA’s future.
Shifting Gears Marine Transmission Repair
What would an OBRA show be without our Michigan friends there to support their daughter Heather with her winning ways! Don has again sponsored the ROOKIE saddle, buckle, top 5 awards. Thanks Don for supporting our rookies 2 years in a row!
Investment Planning Council (Ken Vyse) //
www.ipc-ingersoll.ca/
Not only is Ken Vyse at almost every OBRA show supporting his daughter Justine, he has also stepped up to sponsor the POLE BENDING saddle, buckle, top 5 for 2012. This support is helping Ontario Pole Benders build the sport and compete on a world class level!
Shur-Gain
A second year sponsor for OBRA and a name well known to all of us for producing great horse feed! For 2012 they are our FUTURITY saddle, buckle, top 5 sponsor. What a year to do it with the world class horses running in OBRA futurities this year. If you look around at trailers you will notice many trainers feeding Xplosion and other Shur-Gain feed!
Clingen Quarter Horses
David and Rachel Clingen will again be sponsoring the awards banquet when all these great awards are presented, by transforming the banquet room into a unique venue worthy of all these great achievements.
A large number of OBRA members headed to Columbus Ohio for the All American Quarter Horse Congress, the last week of October. As a Congress ``Rookie` I can say that I was so proud to be a Canadian, the support and cheering of Ontarians at this event was overwhelming and our results were OUTSTANDING! Just take a look at all our OBRA members that hit the top 15, absolute- ly incredible in these tough competitive classes:

OBRA president David Clingen posted the following com- ments after the Grand Slam Finals in October:
`` Looking back over the year it is pretty incredible to see the con- tinued growth of our sport! Not only are our total entries on the rise, but the number of really competitive horses competing in Ontario, is incredible. I believe there were over 10 horses that ran 14 second runs at REACH this weekend, this, combined with a number of low 15 second runs. Even more importantly watching horses and riders reaching new personal goals is what our sport is all about! That is what fuels our competitive level constantly. Just look at Facebook and see how many members were so satis- fied with their weekend outcome and personal accomplishments. Also very rewarding to see so many taking great pride in their ath- letic mounts. For those that endured disappointments, please do not be discouraged! Keep trying and you will reach your goals! ``
David has decided that he will be focusing on other commit- ments in 2013. We will certainly all miss his leadership on the OBRA Executive, but look forward to taking him up on his offer of support for the 2013 season.

OBRA is in awe of these results, it just goes to prove what a force we are to be reckoned with in Barrel Racing and Pole bend- ing in North America.
For many of us November and December it is a time to take a well deserved break for ourselves and our equine partners. We wish everyone a great upcoming holiday season and look forward to seeing you all at the OBRA , AGM and Year end Banquet on January 19th, 2013.
In order for us to keep this great organization growing, it is important for members to attend the AGM. We encourage you to participate in choosing the 2013 Executive team, and provide sup- port and ideas to further enhance the OBRA for the upcoming 2013 season.
