Ottawa, Ontario, Novem- ber 13, 2012 - Ashlee Stef- fens, 15, of Harriston, ON, won the Jump Canada Medal Final on November 6, 2012, during the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto, ON.
Following the com- pletion of regional and provincial Jump Canada Medal Finals, the top fin- ishers from across Canada were invited to contest the Jump Canada Medal Final Championship at the Royal Horse Show.
At the Royal, Stef- fens, 13, navigated the challenging 10 obstacle course effortlessly riding Double C Stables’ Belgian Warmblood gelding, Beau van het Keysershof.
“I have really prac-
ticed a lot to prepare for this final,” said Steffens. “My horse is originally a jumper that my sister com- peted in the talent squad, so going into a hunter medal, I wanted to be really ready with him. I am really thrilled to win.”
The Jump Canada Medal Championship course, set at a height of 1.09m (3’6”), rode forward while incorporating two broken lines, tight roll- backs, a two stride combi- nation and natural jump. Out of the 25 entries, eight riders were invited back for the flat phase where riders were required to show a sit- ting trot, as well as the three gaits of walk, trot and canter in both directions. determine the overall plac- ings, the top four riders remained in the ring for a ride- off over a shortened course, which included a can- ter fence to start, a jump at the counter- canter, a trot jump and the final fence at the hand-gal- lop. Steffens, last to go, demonstrated all the elements perfectly to remain the judges’ top pick.
Finishing in second position was Kendra Martenfeld of Toronto, ON, with her own horse, Ferrari, a 10-year-old South American Warm- blood gelding.
Nora Gray of Owen Sound, ON, earned third place riding Famous, owned by Jennifer Sars- field, while Jessica Blum of Gormley, ON, and Car- nell, owned by Kaitlyn Blum, rounded out the top four.

Eric Lamaze and Jonathan Asselin Top Canadians in North American East Coast and West Coast World Cup Standings
Ottawa, Ontario - Eric Lamaze of Schomberg, ON, and Jonathan Asselin of Calgary, AB, are cur- rently the top Canadian rid- ers in the North American East Coast and West Coast World Cup Leagues.
Riding Derly Chin De Muze, Ashland Stables and Torrey Pines Stable’s nine- year-old Belgian Warm- blood mare, Lamaze earned 17 World Cup points for his second place finish in the $200,000 CN Reliabili- ty Grand Prix World Cup Qualifier, held at CSI5*W Spruce Meadows National in Calgary, AB on June 9. The following week, the pair finished eighth, for 11 points, in the $200,000 CN Performance Grand Prix World Cup Qualifier, once again held at Spruce Mead- ows during the CSI4*-W Spruce Meadows Conti- nental. Lamaze is currently the leading Canadian in the East Coast standings with a total of 28 points.
In the West Coast League, Asselin is the lead- ing Canadian with 29 points. Riding Showgirl, Attache Stables’ 12-year- old Selle Francais mare, Asselin placed seventh, for 12 points, in the $50,000 Mibroc World Cup at the CSI2*-W British Columbia Open, at Thunderbird Horse Park in Langley, BC.
The duo also earned 17 points for their second place finish at the $100,000 Bromont World Cup Quali- fier held July 22 at CSI2*- W Bromont, held in Bromont, QC.
With a total of 24 points to come second in the East Coast League, Jill Henselwood of Oxford Mills, ON, scooped up 20 points for her win riding George, B Gingras Eques- trian Limited’s 10-year-old Hanoverian gelding, at the prestigious $100,000 Hick- stead World Cup Grand Prix held at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair Horse Show in Toronto, ON, on November 7. Henselwood also received three points during the $200,000 CN Performance Grand Prix World Cup Qualifier.
Rounding out the top three in the East Coast standings, with 21 points, is Tiffany Foster of Schomberg, ON. Foster kicked off her World Cup season with 12 points for her seventh place finish in the $200,000 CN Perfor- mance Grand Prix World Cup Qualifier riding Vic- tor, a 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Torrey Pines Stable and Artisan Farms LLC. ESSO Challenge World Cup Qualifier on July 1, Foster and Southwind VDL, a 13-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Foster and Artisan Farms LLC, earned seven points for 10th place. As the second place Canadian in the West Coast League, Jenn Serek of Cal- gary, AB, received 20
points for her win in the $50,000 MIBROC World Cup Qualifier at the CSI2*- W British Columbia Open riding the Shin Shin Group’s 11-year-old Bel- gian Warmblood mare, Eleonora. Serek also earned five points for her 12th place finish riding Brown Thomas, a nine- year-old Irish Sport Horse

In third spot is Lang- ley’s Brian Morton. Riding his own 15-year-old Selle Francais gelding, Spitfire, Morton claimed 13 points for his fifth place finish in the $100,000 Canaccord Genuity World Cup Quali- fier and nine points for eight in the $50,000 MIBROC World Cup, for a total of 22 points in the West Standings.
Throughout the World Cup season, riders earn points based on their final placing in World Cup qual- ifying competitions. Fol- lowing the last competi- tions of the season to be held in Wellington, FL, and Thermal, CA, in March 2013, final points are tal- lied and the top two Cana- dians in the standings qual- ify to compete at the presti- gious FEI World Cup Final, to be held in Göte- borg, SWE, April 24-28, 2012.
