info@oqha.on.ca Be sure to check out our website for the latest information pertaining to our association! CALLING ALL OQHA MEMBERS!
As the New Year quickly approaches, we would like to remind everyone of the upcom- ing OQHA Annual General Meeting and Awards Banquet on January 19th, 2013 being held at the Holiday Inn on Scottsdale Drive in Guelph. The Holiday Inn has just undergone complete renovations and are excited to be hosting our event this year! We hope you join us.
REMINDER to attend our AGM’s – (OQHA, Amateur, Youth) and have your voice heard. We are looking for multi- ple director positions, so if you are interested, come on board. This is the future of our associa-
tion, be part of it!
A number of By-Law changes that the OQHA board of directors are proposing were printed in the last issue of “The Rider”. They are also posted on the OQHA website. Please be sure to review the proposed changes and come out to have your voices heard at the AGM. As an OQHA member, you have a say in the future of our association. This is your oppor- tunity to bring up any questions or concerns you have.
Please remember, atten- dance at the AGMs is important in order to ensure we continue to have these associations in the future and to make your opin-
ions heard. Many of our mem- bers asked that we move it more central location, and we have listened. This is your opportu- nity to ensure a bright and excit- ing future for OQHA, OAQHA and The Ontario Youth Associ- ation.
Schedule of events:
OQHA Annual General Meet- ing – Saturday Jan. 19th at 10:30 am
OQHYA Annual General Meet- ing – Saturday Jan. 19th at 1pm OQHA Awards Banquet – Sat- urday Jan. 19 from 5pm until 1am
OAQHA Annual General Meet- ing – Sunday Jan. 20th at 9am
ATTENTION OQHA AMA- TEURS!!! In previous years, the amateurs have had a very difficult time in getting enough attendance to have a quorum, therefore this meeting has been moved to Sunday morning instead of Saturday in hopes that the amateurs who choose to stay the night of the banquet, will be able to attend the AGM on Sunday. With decreasing interest in amateurs wishing to assist, it would be unfortunate if our amateur association was disbanded. Please remember, the amateur association spon- sors the promotional clubs, queen, futurity, novice shows,
and also purchases the year-end all around awards for the ama- teurs. If the amateur association is force to disband, it will have a significant impact on you next season.
2013 OQHA Queen Contest
The 2013 OQHA Queen Contest has changed for 2013. New for 2013, it will be hosted by the Ontario Quarter Horse Association on January 19th, 2013 at the Ontario Quarter Horse Association Awards Banquet in Guelph, Ontario.

The deadline for applications is December 15, 2012!!
Please download the application form, the con- tract and the horsemanship pattern located on the OQHA website. A 250 word minimum essay must accompany your applica- tion, detailing your com- munity service involve- ment, any past volunteer experience with OQHA, honours, and offices held. As well as your personal statement as to why you would like to represent Ontario as the 2013 OQHA Queen.
Changing the contest dates will allow The Ontario Queen more time to prepare for her debut at The All American Quarter Horse Congress, and allow her to visit more Ontario shows as our queen!
All Contestants will partake in a written test (knowledge of the OQHA By-laws and Constitution and the current AQHA rule book).
An oral interview conduct- ed by a panel of judges, which will elaborate on the candidates’ application. Poise and personality will also be considered; and finally a Horsemanship video of a preset pattern, submitted with the applica- tion, will be judged by AQHA judges or qualified judges. The contestant does not have to ride her own horse, but must use a regis- tered Quarter Horse.
If you are considering applying please contact the queen committee for any questions we can help out with. Email all inquiries to
tlex@hotmail.ca
Ontario has been so well represented in the past and we would love to con- tinue that tradition!
