REFF LONDON

Renewable Energy Finance Forum London

THIS WAS THE 14TH RENEWABLE ENERGY FINANCE FORUM ORGANISED BY EUROMONEY ENERGY EVENTS. AND AT A TIME OF CAUTION WITHIN INVESTMENT MARKETS IT WAS WELL RECEIVED BY THE MANY WHO ATTENDED.

VENUE The Grange St Pauls Hotel, as the name would suggest, is almost within touching distance of St Paul’s Cathedral and a very appropriate venue for such an important conference.

GENERAL FORMAT A varied mix of speakers covered every subject you could hope to experience and far too many subject areas to name, however we have highlighted the sessions and topics within this feature.

One area worth mentioning was the way that the various sessions were presented. Headed by individual knowledgeable and experienced chairpersons most sessions were run on a panel basis mixed with individual presentations.

Discussions rather than presentations would be a more accurate description of the individual sessions, with lively regular Question & Answers throughout.

This had the advantageous effect of inclusivity in that the panel members encouraged debate from the floor – something to be applauded.

Breaks were many and of reasonable timescales so that delegates could take advantage of the time to network.

1ST DAY SESSIONS Following an introduction by Henry Hely Hutchinson, Managing Director of Euromoney Energy Events, 1st day sessions included...

• Renewables and the bigger picture • The facts about financing renewables • Finding ways to unlock capital • Filling the renewable debt gap • Long term ownership of assets

‘A TASTE OF EUROPE’ GALA EVENING RECEPTION A highlight of the 2 day conference was the event held on the hotel’s rooftop terrace where delegates enjoyed the most impressive views over the capital – St Paul’s Cathedral on the left, The Shard on right and The Globe Theatre just a little lower down!

Regular REFF delegates from all over the world greeted old friends and made new ones. Business is about trust and there is no better way in building that trust than by shaking hands in the first instance.

In these days of teleconferencing, emails and other forms of communication this is sometimes forgotten, or at least not regarded as important enough in the world of business. All these forms of communication are important but it is certainly worth the effort to endeavour to meet other business people face to face and events like these are the ideal way of doing so.

DRAGON’S DEN Day 2 got off to an early start with a ‘Dragon’s Den’ Investment Forum where 4 candidates pitched to finance industry leaders – an interesting and novel way to start the day.
