INTRODUCTION

WIND ENERGY NETWORK SKILLS GAP

WE CONTINUE IN THIS EDITION WITH 2 DIFFERENT ANGLES ON OUR SKILLS GAP INITIATIVE.

• A general area where leaders in the industry give their opinions on the subject area

• The scheduled second target area within our long term strategy – 6th Form schools/Further Education Colleges, which features various projects around the UK

New readers can learn more about this initiative within the pages of the last 3 editions.

WIND INDUSTRY CAREERS (WIC) STEERING GROUP Our industry steering group has been formed and will meet during RenewableUK’s event in Glasgow. We will keep you informed on developments.

This first meeting will discuss/set policy and timescales.

INITIATIVE

OPERATIONS & MAINTENANCE FEATURE This important area of the industry is often seen as secondary to construction, which could not be further from the truth. We devote a sizeable area within this edition featuring the opinions and advice from the leaders in the field.

CRISIS MANAGEMENT – PREVENTION RATHER THAN CURE It would appear that the ‘popular press’ exalt in the disasters of the world rather than the recoveries and solutions. Crisis Management is an important area and this substantial feature focuses on prevention rather than cure – it’s dangerous out there, as we know, so the more information and advice we heed the safer we will be.

CORROSION & COATINGS In the harsh environment of developments and projects, particularly offshore, we focus on expert opinion which will help the industry make the right choices and also learn from past mistakes.

NAVIGATION AIDS Offshore wind offers challenges and the importance of navigation is featured to assist our readership in making informed decisions.

MAGAZINE AND WEBSITE INTERACTION The website continues to grow and is already a very potent and helpful tool for our readership so jst another reminder regarding the interaction between the magazine and the website for those who are not aware of the possibilities.
