SPONSORS OF REGIONAL FOCUS
OSIRIS PROJECTS
Osiris Projects specialise in the acquisition, interpretation and reporting of seabed and subseabed survey data, providing detailed and accurate analysis to inform coastal and nearshore developments.
LEAD MARINE SURVEY CONTRACTOR The company was established in 1997 and since then has established itself as a lead marine survey contractor throughout the UK and Europe serving clients from a range of industries.
CONTRACTS
The company has successfully completed over 500 marine based contracts throughout the UK and northern Europe, ranging from inland surveys to full scale multi-parameter seabed mapping projects covering hundreds of square kilometres of coastal seabed.
EXPERIENCE
The level of experience in the company within this area is among the highest in Europe, given their involvement with the majority of UK Rounds 1, 2 and
Round 3 sites since 2001, in addition to a number of Scottish and European
licensing areas.
EXPANSION In 2011 they
GROWTH
The company has grown considerably over the past 2 years and now employ over 50 full time professional staff covering the disciplines of hydrography, engineering geophysics, maritime archaeology, marine geotechnics and engineering geology.
expanded their European offshore wind presence with the successful completion of a full cable route survey in the German Bight region for TenneT Offshore GmbH, comprising a detailed geophysical and geotechnical survey programme.
RECENT DEVELOPMENT The company’s most exciting recent development is the procurement of a Surgeon Tracked Inspection ROV from
MERSEY MARITIME
Offshore wind is a complicated business. Designing, developing and delivering a wind turbine that can withstand the harshest of conditions and generate electricity 24 hours a day 365 days a year is nothing if not demanding. Then multiply the number of turbines by several hundred and the challenge seems mind boggling. Yet this is the opportunity that presents itself in the Irish Sea as part of the UK Round 3 offshore wind development.
THE SUPPLY CHAIN
The supply chain for such projects is also complex. The proximity of land for storage and assembly, the proximity to heavy and marine engineering expertise as well as port facilities for support vessels and supply chain logistics are all critical factors in the how efficiently and effectively these projects can be delivered. Added to which is the need, once they’re installed, for ongoing servicing, ideally from the same port facilities with a pool of readily available skills.
IN THE SAME PLACE
To have all of the above in place is essential; to have all of the above in the same place is a real advantage. And it is precisely this advantage that the maritime industry of the Liverpool City Region can offer to wind farm developers.
Global Marine Systems. The unit will be used primarily for cable integrity and depth of burial studies in shallow water regions inaccessible to free-flying ROVs. With a weight in air of 3 tonnes, the system can reach sea water depths of 100m and benefits from a full surveillance suite, obstacle avoidance sonar and a survey quality depth sensor.
The unit can be deployed effectively from the company’s latest survey vessel ‘Bibby Tethra’ launched in 2011.
SPECIFICATIONS
Forming the fifth and largest of their fleet the DP1, 27.5m semi-SWATH catamaran delivers a stability profile similar to that of a vessel over twice her size, while retaining the manoeuvrability and flexibility of a shallow- drafted coastal vessel.
Designed specifically to meet the challenges presented by Round 3 sites, Bibby Tethra is registered under MCA Category 1 and benefits from a permanently mobilised high-spec survey spread, making her a cost-effective alternative to larger offshore vessels.
LOCATION
Based in Wirral, the company has been heavily involved in the local offshore wind developments of Rhyl Flats, North Hoyle, Burbo Bank, Gwynt-y-Mor, Walney and Barrow.
