I don't know about you, but I loved seeing the country bathed in bunting for the Queen’s Jubilee, and as the Olympics approaches its great to think that this patriotic attitude is going to last throughout the summer. Not only is this a proud time for the country, it is also great news for retailers, as nothing gets this country spending like a celebration!
This is the time of year when summer sales are everywhere, and the shopping experience changes slightly. Sales are a great way to generate revenue from excess stock, but it is important not to lose a well‐designed store experience entirely to sales rails. We’ve put together a POP feature for this issue to look at how to keep branding central to design, even during sales periods. For retailers, July brings a celebration of all things independent, and we’ve been lucky enough to have a catch up with the lovely Clare Rayner, ‘The Retail Champion’ and UK Lead for Independent Retailer Month. Independent retail offers shoppers greater diversity on the high street, and provides avenues into business for new brands. Having more retailers on a high street creates a sense of competition that is good for the economy and also beneficial for customers, who are awarded the power of choice. This month is all about making an effort to support local independents, so check out our interview with Clare on pages 26‐27 for details on how to show your support. On a final note, we’ve had a great month here at A1, and we’re delighted to announce that we’re happily settled in our lovely new offices!
