Megaman Q&A

Secrets of Success

Fred Bass, Managing

Director of Neonlite International Ltd, the

brand owner of MEGAMAN®, talks us through the success of the brand.

A1: MEGAMAN® has established itself as a very well respected lighting manufacturer. What do you think has helped MEGAMAN® to stand out? Fred Bass: MEGAMAN®’s 20‐year pedigree in low energy lighting, beginning with compact fluorescents and developing a range that offered the market a true equivalent to incandescent lamps, has meant that we have always been known for our expertise in environmentally efficient lighting. MEGAMAN® is now repeating this success with LED technology, initially in professional reflector lamps and modules, and now in consumer LED lamps with the broadest replacement range available.

A1: What are the most important considerations for manufacturing fixtures that will be suitable for the retail environment? FB: Good beam control for low glare and comfortable accent lighting with dramatic effect makes MEGAMAN® reflector lamps ideal for integration into shop lighting fixtures of all types. The MEGAMAN® reflector series can fit directly into many existing fixtures for a more sustainable approach, and the new modules are interchangeable for the same reason. Both existing and new fixture designs are catered for with minimal specialised R&D required.

A1: MEGAMAN® has been involved in a number of projects for the retail sector. Which has been the most exciting?

FB: One of our most recent and most exciting

projects has been

Central Central in Hong Kong. It’s a brand new designer shopping centre in the heart of Hong Kong’s financial and commercial district, Central, that houses brands like Karen Millen and Nine West. We worked with well‐known lighting designer, Tino Kwan, to install MEGAMAN® LED reflector technology throughout the retail space, and the result is a stunning white shopping canvas with visual lighting drama and energy savings of 105,090 kWh and 73,563 kg in CO2 emissions per year. Tino Kwan chose to use MEGAMAN® LED reflector technology due to the lighting performance of the lamps, the variety of directional beam angles available and also our sustainable credentials as a company.

A1: What does the future hold for MEGAMAN®? FB: MEGAMAN® anticipates fast growth within the industry and this is because of a huge move towards LED across all sectors. MEGAMAN® will continue to champion the most sustainable approach with true retrofits for the consumer and
