He received a bachelors degree in industrial engineering from Montana State University and a doctorate in mechanical engi- neering from Oregon State University. He retired from the C.I.A. in 1985. He was pre- ceded in death by his son, Charles B. Arm- strong. Bill is survived by his wife, Joan H. Armstrong; his son, Allen E. Armstrong; his brother, Edward Charles "Buck" Armstrong; and two nieces, Elizabeth Dodson and Claudia Henley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 24, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Woodbridge,VA. On Tuesday, September 14, 2010 of Clinton, MD, after a long and courageous effort to survive leukemia. Devoted wife of 62 years to Alva C. Gibson; mother of Terri Kaiser (Dale) and Christopher Gibson (Cherie); grandmother of Lauren and Evan Kaiser, Jordan and Garrett Gibson; sister of Lloyd and Elmer Guffee. Laura was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church for more than 50 years. She served faithfully on the Altar Guild and enjoyed socializing with her friends from the congregation. She was especially proud of her service for our country during the SecondWorldWar ,when she served as a member of the 64th Army Air Force Squadron. She remained close friends with the women in her squadron through her life and theirs. Born September 30, 1920 in Blackfoot, Idaho; died peacefully September 12, 2010 at a nurs- ing home in Alexandria, VA where she had resided for seven years as her health declined. She would have been 90 years old in a few weeks. Married Richard J. Habeger of South Dakota on June 3, 1940, the same day she graduated from the University of Iowa in Iowa City. Settled in Benicia, California, for many years where their three children, Steven, Kath- leen and David were born. Moved to Virginia in 1956 and lived there the rest of her life. Mrs. Habeger was a grade school teacher in California during WW II; a substitute teacher in the Arlington County school system and taught English one year at Bishop Denis J. O'Connell High School in the 1960s. She liked to sing with the Caroleers in Arlington County, as well as belonging to the Arlington County Homemakers Extension Club. She volunteered at Powhatan Nursing Home in Arlington and was active in the Arlington County Senior Center for some years. Her husband died in 1998, shortly after they celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. She is survived by her children; daughters-in- law Cathleen and Karen; grandchildren Scott (Amy_ Kelly (Sheryl) and Gillian (Josh); great- grandchildren Jacob and Noah; a sister, Merna Park of St. Marie's, Idaho; many nieces, nephews; and devoted friend Mary Paden. At her request, there will be no funeral service. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Red Cloud Indian School, 100 Mission Dr., Pine Ridge, SD 57770, her favorite charity.
