8 p.m., Scion, Dupont Circle Reid: I had fl own into D.C. early in the morning, so I had been up since 4:30, and I was already starting to feel the beginning stages of a cold. I took the Metro, and I got there about 15 minutes early. The hostess asked: Do I want to be outside or in? It was a nice night, so I fi gured outside would be best. I got a beer and waited for Kelly. Kelly: I fi nished work at 5, so I had a lot of time to spare. I just went to Dupont and kind of hung out and then went over to the restaurant. I got there two minutes before 8. He was sitting right outside. I had a feeling when I saw him that it was him. I thought, Oh, okay, he’s pretty cute, so that’s a good

start. I walked to the hostess and got seated. Reid: I thought she was pretty cute. She carried herself with a lot of confi dence; she was smiling. She was defi nitely someone I was attracted to. Kelly: I generally think that my physical type is the tall, dark, handsome type and I guess we’re about equal height. But I thought he was attractive. I think cute and all- American probably describes it the most. And he had a nice smile. Reid: I sat down and said, “So, where are you from? What do you do?” We both kind of realized that we were young, and so I said, “Did you just fi nish up school?” And she said, “Yeah.” Kelly: He’s from the Midwest, but he was eager to come to D.C., and I’ve sort of been in this area my whole life, but I went to college in the Midwest. So we both sort of have a different perspective of and an idea of where each other comes from. And he’s done a lot of travel. He went to Australia for one of his work projects, and that is where I spent some time abroad.

INTERESTS TO SHARE ... Kelly: Music, doing fun things outside (not something I do often, but I hope to do more), photography, travel. I want someone who strives to understand different perspectives and be appreciative of people from different walks of life. Asking the diffi cult questions about life and trying to fi nd answers. Reid: At least a passing interest in Democratic politics. Appreciative of soccer. Bonus points if she’s into photography.
Reid: We ordered a couple of appetizers, talked some more and then ordered dinner. She asked if I had any pipe dreams, which was an interesting question. It’s not something that I’d ever ask on a date. She said that she had an interest in becoming a recording artist and that she tried out for “American Idol.” It takes a special level of craziness to do that. Not a bad crazy, just a confi dent crazy. I told her that I did photography as hobby. Kelly: The thing that struck me that he was most passionate about was his traveling and being involved in political work and facilitating important political events and campaign events.
