BIO
Summer-joy “S.J.” Main is an independent fi lmmaker based in Los Angeles and the founder of the
independent production company Tica Productions.
Main received a BA from UCLA’s School of Theatre, Film and Television, and an MFA from the Film Division of
Columbia University, New York. As a Producer, her award-winning fi lms have played in fi lm festivals worldwide,
including the Sundance International Film Festival. While Main’s livelihood is guiding feature narrative projects
from their genesis through distribution, she is also an accomplished screenwriter and director. Her two works
as a director have screened in fi lm festivals worldwide, including the São Paulo International Film Festival and
AFI Dallas Film Festival. Main has served as a script reader for New Line, Walden Media and Radical Media.
She has worked closely with internationally acclaimed artists and production companies, including Merchant
Ivory Productions and DreamWorks SKG. She is a selected participant of the LPA and LWL of the National
Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) and the Emerging Narrative Filmmakers program of the
Independent Feature Project (IFP).
Main was raised in Cambria, California. She is half Costa Rican and is an advocate for the appreciation
of Latino-themed cinema in the United States and abroad. Main is the founder of the Latino Screenplay
Competition and the Chief Executive Offi cer of the Latino Film Fund. In her spare time, Main is an avid
triathlete.
