LOGLINE
An orphaned thirteen-year-old boy is forced to face the unpleasant truth about his only father fi gure during
one harrowing day on the mean streets of Baltimore.
BIO
Baltimore native Sheldon Candis is a graduate of the USC School of Cinematic Arts. His short fi lm Sonny
Listening, a coming-of-age boxing drama, which he wrote and directed, has played at over twenty fi lm
festivals worldwide and is being distributed by hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons through his Simmons
Lathan Media Group.
With his writing partner Justin Wilson, Candis wrote the screenplay Golden Boy. Based on a true story, the
script chronicles Olympic great Jesse Owens and his triumphant rise from a poverty-stricken childhood to
symbolically defeating Adolph Hitler at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games. Golden Boy has been selected as a
quarter-fi nalist for the prestigious Nicholl Fellowship Award.
Candis and Wilson continue writing within a self-coined hybrid genre called ‘The Driller’ (Dramatic Thriller).
Their most recent screenplay, Learning Uncle Vernon, tells the story of a thirteen-year-old orphaned boy
searching for a father fi gure in his ex-con uncle. In the course of one day on the mean streets of Baltimore,
the kid who once revered his uncle must stand to stop him.
Candis’ fi rst documentary, The Dwelling, is being distributed domestically by Scion and Asian pop-culture
magazine Giant Robot.
