Our intensive, hands-on Filmmaker Labs are the incubators for the next generation of
independent fi lm writers, directors, and producers. Each year, Film Independent helps
fi lmmakers hone their skills, develop current projects, and meet fi lm professionals who can
help advance their careers.

ProJeCT: InVoLVe
Project:Involve is Film Independent’s signature diversity program, dedicated to increasing
cultural diversity in the fi lm industry by cultivating the careers of under-represented fi lmmakers.
The program, which runs from October through June, selects fi lmmakers from culturally diverse
backgrounds and fi lmmaking tracks. The Fellows are paired one-on-one with a mentor from
the fi lm industry. In addition to the mentorship, the Fellows also attend fi lmmaking workshops,
community screenings, and receive career development assistance.

SPIrIT AWArD GrAnT WInnerS
Each year, Film Independent awards a number of grants to help fi lmmakers with their current
projects, as well as to recognize them for past accomplishment. Since 1995, we have given
out over $860,000 in cash grants to our fellows.

FAST TrACK
Designed to help fi lmmakers move their current projects, narrative as well as documentary, forward,
Fast Track is a fi lm fi nancing market that connects them with fi nanciers, production companies, and
other industry professionals. This highly selective program is open to established as well as up-and-
coming fi lmmakers with exceptional projects still seeking funding.

TArGeT AWArD WInnerS
Each year, two fi lmmakers are awarded Target Awards at the Los Angeles Film Festival –
the $50,000 Target Filmmaker Award for Best Narrative Feature, and the $50,000 Target
Documentary Award for Best Documentary Feature. Since 2002, the Festival has awarded
$600,000 in Target Awards.
