TECHNICAL SERVICE UNLIKE ANY OTHER


Patterson looks for the best of the best when it comes to service technicians.


That’s one of Shawn Morgan’s most important tasks. Morgan, Patterson Animal Health National Service Manager, seeks out men and women with advanced knowledge on a wide spectrum of materials. “Over the last three and a half years, we’ve been doing entire clinic builds – cabinetry, exam table installations, cone beam installations, and so much more,” Morgan said. “So we look for people well-informed in electronics, biomedtronics and even carpentry techniques.”


Once selected, potential service technicians are put through rigorous training, where they are enrolled in both general knowledge and material-specifi c courses, and released to the workforce partnered with experienced technicians.


“The fi rst eight weeks is basically manufacturer and on- the-job training,” Morgan said. “Our service technicians go through a variety of classes, including anesthesia class, monitor class and X-ray 101 to provide them with a comprehensive base understanding of the materials they will be handling. Then we put them in a van with experienced technicians and send them around the country to pick up different skills through real-world applications.”

The education doesn’t stop once Patterson’s service technicians complete the onboarding process. Service technicians receive ongoing training in all aspects of Patterson clients’ practices – which benefi ts both the service technicians and the practices.
