IMPLEMENTING REHABILITATION EQUIPMENT, such as the Neptune treadmill by Tudor, can seem like a daunting task. It requires a sizeable investment, space planning and training for employees. But when you have continuous support from trusted partners, implementation can be simple and rewarding.
Personalized patient care Near downtown Portland, Oregon, Thomas Mackowiak, DVM, and business manager Ryan Hesketh opened up Heartfelt Veterinary Hospital in 2014. Mackowiak spent a few years working in corporate veterinary offi ces. Though he was interested in treatment alternatives to medication, he didn’t have the fl exibility to practice that way. “I wanted to give my patients and clients individualized care, go beyond just prescribing medicine, so I wanted to open my own hospital that would allow me to do that,” said Mackowiak.
REHABILITATION SERVICES,
such as underwater treadmill therapy, provide veterinarians with a different path to care for patients in an innovative way. From post-operative rehabilitation to weight management services, veterinarians have a unique opportunity to create a streamlined experience for clients and stimulate practice growth.

After opening the doors in 2014, Mackowiak and team made a major expansion of the hospital in 2016. “When we decided to lease the space next to ours and combine the two spaces, we had rehabilitation and specialty services in mind,” said Hesketh. “We were happy with the laser therapy we were able to offer, but wanted to get into rehabilitation so we started looking into underwater treadmill therapy.”
