“We’d outgrown the old facility and we weren’t able to get the flow and efficiency we wanted. We wanted more exam rooms, a larger treatment center, just more space in general. And because we were running into some leasing issues with our old location, we needed to come up with a solution quickly,” said Cunningham. With only an 11-month window to find, design and renovate a new location, the doctors had no time to waste.
Thanks to a lucky coincidence, they didn’t have to look for a location for too long, or go too far.
“A friend of ours is a contractor in the area and when we told him what we wanted to do, he knew just the right spot to show us,” said Cunningham. The contractor brought the doctors five minutes down the road to a location with endless potential.
“It was like a blank canvas. It was a 15,000-square-foot steel span building that used to be a hotel and it allowed us to gut the entire building and start over,” said Cunningham. “Plus, it was a prime location – right at the intersection of two major thoroughfares in town.” Another bonus of the space was that a portion was the home of an emergency veterinary hospital. Though not affiliated with Parkersburg Veterinary Hospital, the emergency clinic rents space from the doctors and provides a mutually beneficial referral partnership.
