Youth Tour

Washington, D.C. Youth Tour and YouthPower Energy Camp Contest Opened

Kay Electric is giving eight area high school juniors the opportunity to win trips to Washington, D.C., Steamboat Springs, Colo., or cash prizes. The two trips are all expenses paid and are truly a once in a lifetime opportunity. KEC has participated in the National Ru- ral Electric Youth Tour Program since the early 1960s. Each year, KEC has an essay contest for area juniors. The students are asked to write a 500-word essay over a spe- cific topic. This year’s topic: Share a subject in which you are passionate about.

KEC will have all the essays judged by a third party and the top eight will be asked to attend the annual Youth Tour Banquet in March. The top eight stu- dents will be asked to present their essays in speech form and answer a few electric coopera- tive questions from a panel of judges.

Once concluded, the top two students will represent KEC at Youth Tour in Washington, D.C. June 10-16, 2016; second place students will receive an all expense paid trip to Cooper- ative Youth Leadership Camp in Steamboat Springs, Colo. July 16-22, 2016; third and fourth place students will receive cash prizes.

Participants must be a high school junior and attend a school within KEC’s service territory. You do not have to be a member of KEC. Essays are due Friday, Feb. 19, 2016 by 5pm.

Area Eighth graders wanting

to participate in our YouthPower competition are asked to write a one-page, double spaced es- say on the topic, “A Day With- out Electricity.”

The essays are judged by an independent panel on com- mand of subject, strength of ideas, style and grammar. KEC
