Ice and Wind Nightmare (continued from page 1) Big ice near Geary covers line. Poles on road S. of Cashion

On day 6 of the outage, we had more contractor crews and men work- ing than we had in the 2002 big ice storm! We had 69 crews and over 350 men working this ice storm. To maximize our time and work ef- forts, Cimarron employees cooked and fed hot meals to the workers out in the field. Over 3100 meals were fed. We cooked food overnight in big roasters and then transferred it to hot insulated tubs. Employees and CEC Trustees then delivered lunch out to the workers. Where Do You Start? In a major ice storm, you have to find out where the damage is and what is going to be required to fix it. Safety is always on your mind so that workers and the public do not get hurt. You have to get the poles and equipment delivered to our warehouses so we can disburse it out to the crews. We need the best communications possi- ble to get info., provide info. and stay safe and focused on the big picture.

Early morning planning

Since we had an ice storm just a month before, we were working on using new technology to help us. Some things worked really well and some still need some work.

South of Okarche to Calumet line

Flying over our lines gave us a good overall assessment of the damage. The IT department was able to as- semble outage maps with poles, cross arms and lines down etc.. Also on I-pads we could see our linemen (bird dogs) who were leading crews to map locations via the GPS navigation. The facebook and web page updates were well received. They informed our members about restoration progress.

West of Kingfisher

Some things that we need to improve on is reporting outages. The phone system was too hard to get through. The “Contact Us” portion of the web site didn’t require enough informa- tion to properly id the caller with their location. (Continued on page 6)
