Apprentice lands “perfect” job with Sykes Champagne for Show originals

During the Exhibitor Kick Off meeting at the Ricoh Arena in October for the 10th Executive Hire Show, guests who had also attended the inaugural meeting on 12 July 2006 were presented, appropriately, with Grand Vintage Champagne from that year. Pictured, from left, are Show Director Robert Aplin, Gary McWilliam of Hire Supply Co, Josh Llewellyn of Genset and MHM, inspHire’s Karen Miles, Show Visitor Campaign Manager Steve McKenzie, Probst’s Neil Jones, Bob Hughes of CLM, Gemma Sharpe representing Takeuchi, and EHN Editor Alan Guthrie.

Champion expands surface prep fleet

Sheffield-based Champion Hire has expanded its fleet of Trelawny surface preparation equipment range by adding more TFS230 floor strippers, a product that the company had trialled for the manufacturer before its launch at the Executive Hire Show this year.

Each of the hirer’s five depots now has two TFS230s. The electrically powered machine has a quick-release foot pedal to change blade angles. Typical applications include removing vinyl floor tiles and linoleum. Trelawny’s Glenn Chapman, left, and Dave Styler, centre, from the manufacturer’s UK distributor, Yokota UK, are pictured with Champion’s Sheffield depot manager, Chris Nicholls, handing over the latest additions.

Sykes Pumps has recruited a new apprentice as a result of the company’s charity links with Charlton Athletic FC’s Community Trust. Having left school, Zeppelin Machen-Smith attended a youth employment forum organised by the Trust, where he met Sykes Pumps’ Regional Director, Jason Saville, who was seeking new apprentices. “Zeppelin stood out straight away. He was articulate, intelligent and motivated, and he had a good technical understanding from previous experience working on cars. He now works with a mentor at our Charlton depot, repairing and maintaining pumps, ready to go out on hire.” “If the job centre had asked me to name a job I wanted to do, I would never have thought of ‘pump engineer’,” said Zeppelin, “but this is the perfect role for me because I’m tinkering with engines every day and can see a genuine career path.”

Hilti launches diamond core system

Hilti has introduced the X-Change Module (X-CM) diamond core system, which is designed to allow users to quickly re-tip core bits. Instead of being supplied as a single unit, the cores have a ring on the barrel which can be removed with a screwdriver before a new one is pushed and twisted into place. This eliminates the need for the entire implement to be sent for re-tipping, and users can take one barrel with different rings for various base materials. New also is the TE DRS-4-A, an integrated dust removal attachment

for Hilti’s TE 4-A22 cordless rotary hammer, which is powered entirely by the tool’s 22V battery.
