EXECUTIVE REPORT
Grounds for growth
EHN reports on some of the new lawn, garden and grounds care equipment launched at IOG Saltex, held recently for the first time at NEC.
Low-vibration Makita breaker
As well as displaying its latest cordless and petrol- powered professional lawn and garden equipment, Makita showed a cut-away version of its recently launched 32kg HM1812 breaker, to demonstrate the technology it incorporates. Marketing Manager Kevin Brannigan, pictured, said that the tool offers a 60% increase in impact energy
at 73 joules compared to its predecessor, and a 25% reduction in vibration to 6.5m/s2
. A new vibration damping system is designed to
isolate the impact-generation mechanism from the motor housing, and it is offered in 110V and 240V versions. A trolley is also available, as well as a dust extraction attachment.

Midland Power gets Active
A new addition to Midland Power’s portfolio is the Active range of rotary
mowers, designed to withstand the rigours of hire industry usage. They include the 5400 Series which have Honda GXV engines and are
fitted with anti-vibration handles. Models are available with cutting widths from 40cm to 56cm, and a blade-brake clutch is incorporated so that the user does not need to stop the engine in order to empty the grass collector.

Kubota had two stands at Saltex, one for its grounds care machinery and the other displaying products from its Engines Division. The latter included models that are designed to be compliant with the Stage V emissions regulations coming into effect in 2019.
Business Development Manager, Daniel Grant, told EHN that a significant implication of Stage V is a broadening of the engine types that will be within scope, which will include models from 19kW upwards, compared with the current 37kW limit. This means machines such as some wood chippers, compact access platforms and certain lawn mowers will be included, and this is a message that Kubota will also be highlighting at the Executive Hire Show.

New from Avant Tecno is the re-designed and expanded 200 Series of compact articulating loaders, the smallest model in the company’s portfolio, offered in four versions which will be available in the UK early next year.
The 220 and 225 are fitted with 20hp and 25hp engines respectively, the latter having fuel injection and offering sufficient power to provide a 50 litres per minute auxiliary hydraulic flow for powering larger attachments. The 225 Park has a cab, rather than a canopy, while the 225 LPG is an eco-friendly variant running on liquefied petroleum gas.
