EXECUTIVE NEWS
ADVANCED DRIVES AHEAD
Andover-based KFS Special Vehicles Ltd, which produces the Plant & Go low-floor truck, is set to increase production following its merger with Advanced Minibus Ltd of Clay Cross, Derbyshire. Called appropriately Advanced KFS Special Vehicles Ltd, the combined operation will maintain their separate production facilities, but also develop synergies between the two businesses. The new company is headed by MD Ian Knight, with Steve Elwell as Sales Director. Mark Adams becomes Production Manager in Andover, which employs 12 people, with Gary Robinson as Production Director at Clay Cross, which has 30 staff. “For hirers, benefits will include faster production and better after-sales service,” Ian Knight told EHN.
“We have been receiving more and more orders from new and existing client, and we will now have greater capacity. We can also hold larger stocks of cabs and vehicles for conversions, overcoming supply issues from manufacturers.
“As well as supplying our Plant & Go truck, we have also
re-developed the L3 standard-height chassis cab vehicle, and are working on a new low-floor box body range, as well as a new dropside concept.” Recent hirer customers have included Alide Hire Services, Artisan
Hire, One Stop Hire, Neon Hire, South West Hire & Sales, Hares Hire and Skyline Hire.
Dromad fleet investment
Dromad Hire of Dundalk has continued to invest in new equipment for its fleet. MD Seamus Byrne told EHN that the latest additions include a 270cfm compressor and jack hammers from Atlas Copco, a Generac MT1 mini lighting tower, a Mace Shifta material conveyor, a Z46 articulated boom and a 3.65m vertical mast lift from Skyjack, and a 12kVA Stephill generator.
More Generac machines for GAP
GAP has bought approximately 450 eco-friendly lighting towers from Generac. These include the VB-9 model, fitted with an automatic mast operating safety system and light sensors for automatic operation, and the VT-Hybrid. Ken Stewart, Head of Procurement at GAP, commented, “We are looking
forward to offering our customers the VT-Hybrid for the first time. We have conducted an extensive field evaluation programme with some of our national customers and the feedback on its performance has been excellent.” The hirer has also added more than 100 new telescopic handlers to its fleet, including machines from JCB and Manitou.
Selco plans new hire depot openings
Builders’ merchant, Selco, plans to open two more hire depots before the end of the year. The new sites will be established in Southampton and Weybridge, following the recent opening of a facility in New Southgate and the creation of new branches in Redhill and Coventry earlier this year. This will take the number of Selco branches in the UK to 40, 24 of which are within London and the south east of England. Chief Executive Chris Cunliffe said, “We set ourselves a target at the start in 2015 of trying to double the size of the business within five years and these new openings are further steps towards achieving that.” Tool and plant hire is available in branches in London, Nottingham and Coventry, as well as at the new depots, and will be extended throughout the network in 2016.
