A & Y’s progressive performers
The Yanmar ViO line-up of zero tail swing excavators, distributed by A & Y Equipment, consists of seven models ranging from 1220kg to 8065kg. The machines come as standard with a progressive three-pump hydraulic system, known as VIPPS, fitted with a variable-flow dual piston pump, a gear pump and a multiple combination directional control valve. The hydraulic circuitry design and load-sensing pumps have been designed to offer increased performance when utilising the boom, arm bucket and swing functions. The minis also incorporate a system called ViO Crawler Technology for Advanced
Stability (Victas), designed to provide stability without the need for an expanding undercarriage, by utilising the manufacturer’s off-set track configuration. This is also claimed to reduce vibration, due to the rubber crawlers used.

Postpullers (UK) has developed the Barrier Master attachment that can be fitted to excavators and telescopic handlers for the efficient removal of safety barriers, without any manual handling. Versions are available for use with 3, 5, and 8-tonne machines. The company says that the product exerts a pulling force of 15 tonnes and works on the principle of transferring the extractive power
downwards into the ground, rather than into the air. This helps to ensure that, if the integrity of
the post has been compromised through previous damage, it will not be ejected from the machine if it should break unexpectedly. Postpullers says that, in a recent demonstration, 100 posts were removed in approximately 75 minutes.
