LONDON CALLING
Phil Tizzard, right, was one of a group of Brandon Hire executives who attended the London and South East Regional Road Show at Kempton Park. “It’s simply not possible for all our staff to attend the main Executive
Hire Show, so the regional events are an ideal way to let some of them get a flavour of what it is like, and to make contact with suppliers and other industry professionals. Technology changes fast and it is a great opportunity to keep up-to-date with new products.”
Robert Merker, second from right, Manager of HSS’s Hanworth depot, came with colleague Jas Kundi, right, Manager of its Hounslow branch, and spent a good deal of time discussing Husqvarna’s equipment at the Road Show. “Most of what we normally supply is based on our catalogue, but we can recommend new products that could be added in the future. We were impressed by Husqvarna’s electric and petrol driven saws and cutting tools, and it was great to talk to the sales staff face-to- face. I am going to ask our Area Manager to attend the main Show in Coventry. Product knowledge is so important, and there is no better source of information than at the Ricoh in February.”
Ryan Pocock, right, from Temporary Power Solutions of Brentford, took advantage of the opportunity to see the MHM team. “We already have about 30 of its machines in our fleet, but this was a good chance to talk about possibly adding lighting towers in the future. Instead of having to travel for two hours to a meeting somewhere half-way between us, it took me just about 15 minutes to get to Kempton Park as it was so local, and I got all the information I needed.”
Southern Hoist Services’ Kirsty Archbold-Laming, and Lance Foster, travelled from Southampton to attend the London Regional Road Show. “We met up with a lot of other hirers that we will be able to do re-hire business with, and we are interested in the generator re-hire initiatives from MHM. Many customers ask us to supply a complete package of equipment to site, so that they are dealing with one trusted source of supply, and it was a good opportunity to discuss the various options. We really enjoyed the event, and we are looking forward to going to the Ricoh again next year.”
Phil Wright, left, from The Hireman, said that the Road Show “was a good opportunity to catch up with some of our suppliers, such as Altrad Belle and Husqvarna. I was also able to find out more about HGI’s latest generator line-up, including a revised 6kVA model. I also found the talk on the new regulations in London relating to emissions from construction plant interesting, as you need to keep abreast of changes that could affect our industry.”
Reg Harris, of Southern Plant & Tool Hire, Henley, pictured, right, with Steve Hull, left, liked the concept of the Regional Road Shows. “We don’t normally have the time or manpower to travel to many events, but as this one was held so near to us, it was a great opportunity. We touched base with some existing suppliers like Avant, Hire Supply Co and Husqvarna, and we made a good contact with a hirer in Essex for sourcing potential re-hire work.”

Peter Lewis of Kent Loos, in Medway, described the event as, “A great day. I was able to put faces to voices I knew from speaking to them on the phone, and I bumped into a lot of other industry contacts. I was also able to network and talk about opportunities with other hirers who might want to re-hire portable sanitation equipment in the future, so all in all it was excellent.”
