Karcher buys Clean Sweep
Karcher UK has acquired Manchester-based Clean Sweep Hire, which offers the manufacturer’s cleaning machines for nationwide contract hire. “Hire and leasing has become a significant factor in the professional cleaning market,” said Simon Keeping, Karcher UK’s MD, who is pictured, left, with Clean Sweep MD Steve Dennis. “For years, companies have leased their vehicles, IT equipment and forklift trucks. Against that backdrop, many organisations are now making the same decision regarding their floor care requirements.” Clean Sweep selected Karcher as its sole supplier in 2011, and offers specialist machines ranging from tub vacuums to mini road sweepers. Its customer base includes facility management companies, event organisers and manufacturers.

Hire Supply Company’s (HSC) London operation is celebrating its tenth anniversary. It was established soon after the capital had been chosen to stage the 2012 Olympic Games, to supply equipment to hirers within the M25 from premises in Cricklewood. “It was a real baptism of fire when we opened on 1 November, as it was a bitterly cold month and heaters were in great demand,” recalled MD Gary McWilliam. “It set the pace for what has become the norm for Manager Sean Burgess and his team, with most orders being delivered within four to six hours of receipt by drivers Steve Trower and Asllan Caka. They really are the Olympians of the hire industry.”

TAG Safety, a sister business to TAG Tool Hire of Halifax, has bought the assets of the Hire Trade Alliance. “We have worked with HTA over the last few years, offering members training for NVQs,” said TAG MD Tony Pilkington. “HTA will keep its own identity and we plan to expand membership services, including Health & Safety compliance, employment law, insurance, finance and terms and conditions.”
