Yes, R32 products can be used for residential a pplications. However currently R32 installation i n public places are limited by EN378, because of t he level of fl ammability. However, this standard is currently being revised in order to be consistent with phase down restrictions.
EN378 is a safety and environmental standard, published by CEN, the European Committee for Standards. It provides guidance for companies who design, construct, install, operate, maintain a nd use vapors compression systems for refrigeration, air conditioning, heat pumps, chillers and other similar systems. It limits the amount of gas allowed per m3 for residential and light commercial application and is currently u nder revision.
What changes for installers?
G enerally speaking, installation and maintenance m ethods for units using R32 and R410A are s imilar. Service pressure is similar and R32 can
be used in liquid or gas states. Most of the tools u sed for R410A can be reused for R32. Essential tools are a pressure gauge with measuring scale s uitable for R32, an adapter output on the bottle, are coveys bottle, an electronic leakage detector, a collection station and a ventilation system to avoid concentrations of fl id .
