S

ix J & E Hall commercial condensing units are helping to keep running costs down at a newly-built farm shop and cafeteria in Yorkshire. The units have been installed at the business at Manor Farm, Cranswick, near Driffield, in the East Riding.

The family-run shop on the A164 between Driffield and Beverley showcases some of the best local food and drink from the region and beyond. There is a top-quality range of meat and dairy products from local farmers as well as fruit and vegetables. The new 80-seater cafeteria and bakery on site serves sandwiches, cakes, pies and other delicacies.

The installer was Cold Temp Refrigeration of Skirlaugh, near Hull. All the units come complete with all components fitted during manufacture to save the installer time and money. Low noise Fusion and Fusion Scroll condensing units are available for medium and low temperature applications. The units serve a meat cold room operating at -1 to 0°C, a dairy cold room at 3°C, a cold room at

-20°C, two multi-deck dairy chiller cabinets and a serve-over counter area spanning eight metres. Farm shop director Helen Stones, who runs the long-established family business with her father and mother, Adrian and Christine Fry, said: ‘The investment we put in was to try and future-proof our business. We are very aware of trying to keep our bills low because one of our major costs apart from staff is electricity.

“We are all electric here – we have no gas. We are confident that cost savings will be made on a regular basis. We used the other building for 26 years, it had very low ceilings and was small and intimate. It meant that when it was warm it was a vicious circle as the refrigeration equipment had to work harder. The new building has very high ceilings, is all very open and has better air circulation, modern equipment and is so much better.’

J S Wright, one of the UK’s longest established building services providers, has been bought out by its senior management team.

The mechanical and electrical specialist, which was founded in 1890 and has its headquarters in Birmingham and offices in Bristol and London, is now owned by its team of five executive directors who have run the business for the past ten years. Marcus Aniol, who was appointed managing director in 2008, is now a major shareholder in the company alongside finance director Martin Roberts, national design and estimating director Andrew Smith, national mechanical contracts director Phil Leech and national electrical contracts director Paul Featherston. The buy-out of J S Wright, which is projected to become a £50m business this year, follows the retirement of previous owners and main board directors Peter Marsh, Edwin Moore and David Osborne, who stepped down from the day-to-day running of the company in 2006.

Marcus Aniol said: “Our thanks go to the previous owners for their careful stewardship and faith in our ability to develop the company to what it is today. We have an

established team of directors in place with the drive, determination and vision to take the business forward to an exciting future.

“We aim to build on our long- standing business relationships, and continue to grow our business with clients and suppliers that like us value people, integrity and the highest quality standards.”

The corporate finance team at the Birmingham office of accountants MHA MacIntyre Hudson, led by Mukesh Bulsara, advised the management team on the buy-out, with MHA tax partner Jay Boyce providing expert tax advice. The Wilkes Partnership led by Gareth O’Hara provided legal advice to the management team, while the legal advisers to the vendors were Shakespeare Martineau led by Gary Davie. Funding for the transaction was provided by NatWest Bank. Current projects range from the fit-out of Birmingham’s Left Bank development to a record-breaking £27m M&E contract for Keybridge in London.
