Saturday Insurance Workshop Series: IW2: Insurance Workshop: The Science of Coding
8 a.m.–4 p.m. Moderator: Joel Jaspan
Cost: $80 per seminar, or all four seminars for $275; limited attendance.
A track of 90-minute seminars titled “The Science of Coding,” will feature speakers presenting an overview of current techniques and supporting science, followed by input from Joel Jaspan, a member of the AAP’s Patient Benefits and Advocacy Committee, on applicable coding and insurance claim issues. A 15-minute Q&A session will conclude each seminar. While all ticketed meeting registrants are welcome to attend, these sessions are intended for periodontists.
IW2A: Insurance Workshop: Management of Diabetes Patients in the Dental Office
8–9:30 a.m. Speaker: Brian Mealey
Educational Objectives: • Recognize differences in Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes in the periodontal office.
• Identify concerns for the periodontal office when treating patients with diabetes.
• Identify how to apply the appropriate current dental terminology (CDT) codes and navigate related insurance reimbursement components.
IW1: Insurance Workshop: Medical Coding 9 a.m.–noon
Speaker: Pam Throw (AAP staff)
Cost: $250; limited attendance; continental breakfast included.
This session will focus on submission of dental procedures to medical insurance. There will be an overview of CPT (medical procedure codes) and ICD-10-CM (diagnosis codes), particularly as they relate to periodontal procedures submitted to medical insurance. Attendees will receive a handout of the presentation.
Educational Objectives:
• Grasp the basic structure of medical coding, and recognize appropriate indications for submitting to medical insurance.
• Implement new ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes into medical insurance.
• Review the CMS-1500 medical claims form.
IW2B: Insurance Workshop: Guided Tissue Regeneration 10–11:30 a.m.
Speaker: Jill Bashutski
Educational Objectives: • Review basic principles of periodontal-guided tissue regeneration.
• Gain the most current evidence-based treatment recommendations for guided tissue regeneration.
• Apply the appropriate current dental terminology (CDT) codes and navigate related insurance reimbursement components.
IW2C: Insurance Workshop: Hard Tissue Augmentation
12:30–2 p.m. Speaker: V. Thomas Eshraghi
Educational Objectives:
• Identify when to use bone and biologic material selection for horizontal and vertical bone augmentation.
• Explain usage or barrier membrane selection for horizontal and vertical bone augmentation.
• Apply the appropriate current dental terminology (CDT) codes and navigate related insurance reimbursement components.
