HW2: Vertical Ridge Augmentation (Hands-On Workshop)

Vertical augmentation presents one of the greatest challenges of bone regeneration in implant dentistry. Reconstruction of the anterior maxilla, as well as the posterior areas, will be discussed in detail. Review of the surgical anatomy of the floor of the mouth, in addition to lingual flap management during posterior mandibular surgery, will be presented. Diagnosis and management of post-operative complications will also be addressed. During this session, several high- definition surgical videos will support the understanding of these demanding surgical procedures.
Educational Objectives:
• Apply indications, patient selection, and treatment alternatives for vertical augmentation.
• Identify a comprehensive approach for the anterior maxillary vertical defect.
• Review the surgical anatomy of the floor of the mouth, and the successful surgical technique of the posterior mandible.
HW3: Minimally Invasive Flap Technique for Regeneration (Hands-On Workshop)

A growing demand for more friendly, patient-oriented surgery has prompted periodontists to focus their interest in the development of less invasive approaches. Radical changes to reduce invasivity have been developed through the application of surgical procedures in medicine and in dentistry. The minimally invasive surgical technique involves procedures that can be applied for the treatment of shallow and deep intrabony defects (up to the apical third of the root surface). This course will include two different minimally invasive techniques: 1. Procedures that include the elevation of a tiny buccal flap, as well as the elevation of the interdental papilla and of the palatal flap; and 2. Techniques that are limited to the elevation of the buccal flap.
Please note: each participant will need to bring a magnification device/loupe with independent light source (2.5X to 5X).
Educational Objectives:
• Explore how to design the minimally invasive flap according to the soft tissue and defect anatomy.
• Choose the regenerative material(s) that will ideally combine with the selected flap design.
• Evaluate how to select the suturing material and technique for stable primary closure of the wound.
